How lovely is this collection from Magnolia Antic? It's giving me modern Jane Austen vibes (although hey, that could be because I'm reading Mansfield Park). Either way, it's remarkably pretty, with a wonderful colour palette for autumn and some really nice silhouettes. You can check out the full collection on the Magnolia Antic website.

Emerging Writers’ Festival
The Emerging Writers' Festival is on again in just two weeks time! It's always a pretty terrific festival, and opens some really compelling conversations about creativity and industry. Plus it tends to be a whole lot of fun. I've put in some of my picks for the program below to give you a taste, but… Continue reading Emerging Writers’ Festival
Sunday Circle (or what I’m working on this week)
For background on the Sunday Circle, see this post. What am I working on this week? I've been making really strong headway on the redraft of the Big Damn Literary Novel over the last few days - the fact of which has been pretty great considering I had a real plateau in the process earlier… Continue reading Sunday Circle (or what I’m working on this week)
Friday Finds
These new photos of Tilly Devine and Kate Leigh who ran Australia's criminal underworld in the 1920s are pretty darn awesome. This article on society's ongoing fascination with the Bronte sisters is, well, fascinating / Victorian cat funerals! / and, on a related note, seven ways Victorian fashion could kill you / Rolling Stone has… Continue reading Friday Finds
An Aunt
About three weeks ago, my sister gave birth to her first child, a boy, making me, for the very first time, an aunt. It’s made for a pretty crazy few weeks (although really, a pretty crazy nine months, as Maddy’s pregnancy was a bit of a ropey one), but also one of the most exciting… Continue reading An Aunt

Then again, you shouldn’t always ignore the Devil. Sometimes the Devil has valid things to say. What if the Devil whispers in your ear and reminds you that most of current Christian doctrine was decided not by Jesus but at the Council of Nicea almost 300 years after Christ’s death? Or the Devil might point… Continue reading Friday Finds
Notes from an attachment
For a fair chunk of this year, I've been working as a writer's attachment on a mini-series with an Australian production company. It's been an immensely rewarding experience, and one which has been really positive across the board. I've learnt a lot about creative process for TV and working within production teams to create compelling narrative content,… Continue reading Notes from an attachment
Oscars Year 17
Another day, another year's worth of Oscar nominated films. Generally speaking, this is probably one of the worst years I've watched - weaker even than the 16th Academy Awards which I thought had a lot of clunkers. Given that, historically speaking, we're in the tail end of World War II, it probably makes sense. A… Continue reading Oscars Year 17
Cover Stories
Like a lot of people, I love a damn good book cover. I've been reading and buying and reading all over again a lot of good books lately, and falling in love with some of the covers. This isn't exactly an exciting post, but I wanted to share some of my favourite covers of the… Continue reading Cover Stories
What You Can Learn About Story from Batman V. Superman
I lost three hours of my life last night watching the dismal Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. My expectations were pretty low as I don’t exactly love the choices Zac Snyder makes as a director, but the film still managed to disappoint me with its total lack of consistent characterisation, story and, well, look.… Continue reading What You Can Learn About Story from Batman V.
