Cooking workshops for youth “Cooking is Cool!”
A series of organized healthy cooking workshops for young people aged 15 to 18 from the city of Split, conducted and led by ŠKMER chefs at the Culinary Academy in Split.
The primary objective of this project is to educate high school-aged youth (15–18 years) so they can independently prepare complete meals. As these students will soon transition into adulthood, the key aim is to equip them with the skills to select, prepare, combine, and cook ingredients in a way that preserves their nutritional value. This will promote and help maintain a healthy body weight, while also fostering a culture of nutrition awareness and its importance for overall well-being.
During the workshops, participants will acquire practical skills essential for daily life—speed, dexterity, precision, creativity, and resourcefulness. Anticipating that many high school students will eventually study away from home, this project is designed to teach them how to prepare simple, healthy meals without having to rely on the fastest but often least healthy food options. The goal is to encourage them to further develop the skills and knowledge acquired in the workshops.
We strongly believe that this project, and the skills developed during the workshops, will significantly support these young people in their future independent lives.
Expected Project Results
These workshops, conceived by the Chefs of Mediterranean and European Regions Association (ŠKMER), respond to evolving demands by focusing not only on knowledge acquisition but also on developing practical skills relevant to the realities of modern society. The anticipated outcome is that, after completing the workshops, at least 50% of participants will be able to independently prepare at home the dishes learned during the sessions, continually building on these skills. This will lead to the adoption of healthier habits, improved selection and combination of ingredients, and enhanced socialization and peer exchange. Ultimately, the project aims to positively change dietary habits and improve the overall quality of life for the participants.
