Program Models: Examples of Implementing InTeGrate Design Principles

InTeGrate's work included collaboration with 16 teams of educators to develop new models of ways to bring geoscience to a diverse range of disciplines, institutions, and networks. These program models consisted of institutions, or clusters of institutions, that developed and evaluated programs modeling innovative ways of increasing the diversity of students developing Earth literacy and teaching students to bring the geosciences to bear in addressing societal issues. Program Descriptions

The 16 program teams were engaged in different aspects of improving learning about the Earth at an institution or collection of institutions. Each program has provided extensive information about what they were trying to accomplish, what actions they took to do so, the results of those actions, and what they have learned as a consequence. In addition, the faculty involved in the efforts have provided advice and guidance for anyone wishing to begin similar work on their own campuses as well as reflections about their experiences.

Synthesis of Lessons Learned

As the work of these program teams was nearing an end, they sent representatives to meet together, look across their whole set of experiences, and draw out common threads in several areas. Many of the implementation programs worked to address similar or related issues in their different contexts and were able to synthesize advice and guidance for others attempting to make similar changes in their programs.
