Protecting Youth This Football Season

During football season, more alcohol is consumed, especially by those who are underage. It is important to play your vital role to keep alcohol Out Of Their Hands by doing the following:

Start the Conversation Early

Your voice matters.
Conversations about the dangers of underage drinking can guide youth toward healthier decisions.

Supervise Events

A safe event is a fun event.
Keep alcohol out of kids’ reach, and check in with younger guests often.

Encourage Alcohol-Free Alternatives

Get-togethers don’t need alcohol to be fun.
Offer mocktails, games, and music to keep youth safe and engaged.

Set a Good Example

Adults 21 and older set the tone.
You can model responsible behavior by drinking in moderation — or choosing not to drink at all.

Noteworthy Updates -
New South Carolina Law

On May 19, 2025, the Tort Reform and Liquor Liability bill (H. 3430) officially went into effect in South Carolina.

How does this impact youth across the state?

Under this new law, all merchants that serve alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption are required to complete a certified alcohol server training program. These trainings must include:

          • How to identify and refuse service to anyone under 21 or visibly intoxicated.

• How to properly check IDs and spot fake identification.

This proactive measure strengthens accountability among alcohol-serving establishments and reinforces South Carolina’s commitment to youth safety.

One more way we’re working to keep alcohol #OutOfTheirHands.
