Rant: Indies Don’t Respect Words (apparently).

This makes me sad. As an indie author myself you could argue that I’m biased, but as a reader I’ve got to say that I’ve read some fantastic indie novels as well as some terrible traditionally published books. The way we choose to publish doesn’t always have everything to do with it. Not all of us had no choice because we’ve been rejected a hundred times and felt this was the only way. Some of us, myself included, like the control and freedom being self-published brings.

Here’s a quick intro:Ā Rise of the SparrowsĀ is the first in theĀ Relics of Ar’Zac, a high fantasy set in the land of Rifarne.

Growing up homeless and orphaned in a town that hates her, Rachael must assassinate the king of Rifarne to become queen to a people who once wanted her dead.

Why I Chose The Indie Publishing Route.

Check out this fantastic post by writer Holly Evans, where she explains why she chose to publish her books the indie way! I couldn’t agree more with everything she says, and have the same reasons for publishing my books as an indie author. If you’re not sure which way you want to go, give this insightful post a read!

I’ve Been Interviewed!

The lovely Mercedes Fox has interviewed me over on her blog! Thank you so much, Mercedes ā¤ If you haven’t checked out her blog already, take a look now! šŸ™‚

You can read the interview here.

Doubt and the Writer

Self-doubt is something we all struggle with from time to time, and this post by one of my favourite authors explains beautifully how to deal with it and even why we should accept it. It’s very worth a read for anyone who wants to write, paint, take photographs, or practice any other form of art!

I was intending to do this as one of the writing podcasts but I’m fighting against another return of the Vile Lurgy, so to spare you my coughs and splutters I’ll do it as a regular blog post.

Recently I received a lovely email from reader Alyssa, who asked me what advice I’d give to aspiring writers about the demon of self-doubt and the need for external validation ofĀ the work. It’s a great question, and I wanted to answer it in a more public forum because I’m pretty sure Alyssa’s not the only writer who sometimes struggles with these issues.

When I Grow Up

A beautiful post I came across this morning, summarising perfectly what it feels like to be a writer! The insecurities, the fears, the “I love it so hard that it burns and sometimes I wonder whether it will consume me.” Perfectly said – I often wonder the same thing.

Just. Keep. Writing.

Some fab advice for anyone feeling a little stuck with their writing!

Hey there, lovelies!

I know it’s been awhile since I posted. I’ve spent the last few months buried under deadlines and finishing up coursework–so far this year I’ve gone to grad school, and written and edited THREE books, all coming out next year–and getting ready to head back to Nashville.

But in the slivers of space between, I’ve been reflecting a lot–about writing, publishing, advice–and I wanted to talk about a piece of advice that I know seems trite, but is honestly the best I can give. I’ll try to explain why.

Five years into my publishing career, I finally feel like I have my feet under me, and because of that, I’m often asked for advice.

When writers–aspiring, debut, and established–ask for insight, I always say, ā€œJust keep writing.ā€

And I know that sounds like a very Dory thing to say, but the fact of the matter is, if…
