Attention, everyone!

cookiebreak-move-announcement

Happy Monday, everyone!

I’m only popping in briefly to let you know that Cookie Break has now moved to a shiny new, self-hosted server! If you were subscribed to the blog before you should automatically be redirected to the website; however, if you had Cookie Break bookmarked then your link might no longer be working.

This also means that, if you commented on this blog after last week Thursday morning, I won’t have received your comment. I didn’t post any new updates in that time or ask for the usual bi-weekly writing prompt for the same reason. I wasn’t sure if the website would be ready for today but it is, so please move on over with me! ๐Ÿ™‚

This is the last update I’ll post here, so leave comments at your own peril ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ll see you all there,

BIG News! (Need an Editor? Contact Me!)

editor-announcement-270117

If you follow me on social media, you might have seen mentions of big news earlier this week. I’ve hinted at it several times (not always with subtlety) but I can now say that, in roughly three months from now, I’ll be able to officially call myself an editor!

I’m currently taking an online course on proofreading and copy editing, and am also looking at settingย up my own business. I’m also thinking about the discounts I might offer – If you beta read for me, there’ll be a discount for you! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ll figure out some of the details like pricing over the next few weeks. If you think you’ll need an editor in roughly three months time, get in touch and we can work something out! ^-^

(*sigh* Sarina Langer – Freelance Editor and Author! Now there’s something I’m not going to get tired of saying!)

I’ll keep you updated when everything is set up and official. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to message me either here or on my various social media accounts (look to the right panel for links) if you’d like more information ๐Ÿ™‚

Big Promotion with Goodkindles next Thursday! (26th January)

Exciting news, everyone! On Thursday next week, as a birthday gift to myself, I’m doing a big promotion withย Free and Bargain ebooks | Book promotion site for authors. I’d really appreciate it if you shared the hell out of it on the day ^-^ If you can’t find the links, take a look at my social media pages – I’ll pin everything to the top for that day ๐Ÿ™‚

(No banner because it’d take up more space than the writing)

I’ll do another (proper) post on the day, too ๐Ÿ™‚

โ€œGrowing up homeless and orphaned in a town that hates her, Rachael must assassinate the king of Rifarne to become queen to a people who once wanted her dead.

Rifarne is a country opposed to magic. When its people demand harsh action, King Aeric sees himself with no other choice but to outlaw those with the gift. Rachael, who possesses the rare gift of a Seer, soon finds herself with visions of her own violent death. When her escape goes wrong and she ends up in the clutches of a vicious Mist Woman lusting for her blood, she finds she is the only person who can stop the war against people like her โ€“ and assassinating the king to take his throne may well be the only way to do just that.โ€

(Feast Your Eyes on Another) TITLE REVEAL! *dramatic drum roll*

banner-darkened-light-title-reveal

As you’ll know, I’ve been usingย Soul of the Heartย as a temporary title for my fantasy duology for the past few months. It took me a while to find the right name for it, butย that time has now come! ๐Ÿ˜€

I thought I had it several times only to discard the title a few hours later. But this gave me the warm fuzzies when I first thought of it, and I’ve been calling it this in my head and my notebooks since then. And as we all know, there’s no clearer sign than the warm fuzzies over a couple of words! *ahem*

So, without further ado, here’s the title for Book 1 in my high fantasy duology! DRAMATIC DRUM ROLL, PLEASE!

Darkened Light will be out later this year. The first draft is resting at the moment, and I’ll begin the edit once Wardens of Archos is with my beta readers. I’m currently looking at September/October but don’t make a note of that just yet – it’s far too early for me to commit to anything! I’m hoping to have a blurb for you in a few weeks, too.

The title for Book 2 will be revealed closer to the release of Darkened Light ๐Ÿ™‚ (It still gives me the warm fuzzies!)

Not sure? Here are some reviews:

“Fantasy, action, magic, and abilities- this book has it all. The main character, Rachel, was a breath of fresh air- wise for her age, untrusting, and a heroine who wants anything but to stand out. Blending in, being โ€˜normalโ€™, has always been Rachelโ€™s wish in life, but she has to embrace the fact that normality isnโ€™t hers. She is destined.” -Goodreads review, May 22nd 2016

“The novel opens with an incredibly well-written prologue that just had me hooked, from the style to the little details to the dangerous characters.” – Goodreads review, Dec 18th, 2016

“I really enjoyed this book. It was a well written, easy read with a page-turning storyline.” – Amazon review, Oct 25th 2016

Soul of the Heart

A Writer's MusingsFollowing up from last week’s post about the benefits of writing for fun, I thought now was a good moment to share something I’ve been working on ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve hinted at it here and there, but today I can confirm that I’ve been working on a new WIP! It’s another fantasy series – how many books it’ll have hasn’t been decided yet – and Soul of the Heart is a temporary title only, so don’t get attached to it ๐Ÿ™‚ I thought it’d be easier than calling it Book 2 all the time ๐Ÿ˜›

Honestly, I don’t know how well I’ll be able to work on three WIPs at the same time. My main focus remains the sequel to Rise of the Sparrows, of course, and I should probably set this aside until the first draft, at least, of Immortals (temp. title) is done, but I’ve already been trying to pretend this wasn’t constantly at the back of my mind for months and it hasn’t worked. Ignoring it clearly isn’t the way forward! I’ll keep working on it whenever I can, and we’ll see what happens ^^

Here’s the very first excerpt – enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

Pinterest Research Gods and Demons3
Inspiration from my Pinterest research board

Naavah Ora stared into the soul of the Heart, and knew instinctively that it was dying. There was a presence there with her โ€“ her own presence should have been impossible โ€“ and it slowly corrupted the world.

The red grass beneath her feet swayed in the windless breeze as always, and the same breeze caressed her skin, but something wasn’t right. In the distance she saw the city โ€“ a haven for all dead โ€“ bright and shining as ever, but still something wasn’t right.

It was the missing whisper on the wind. It was the missing laughter in their eyes. It was the slow hiss that carried over the meadow and into the sky, and turned her blood to ice.

And all she could do was watch as it slithered invisibly to the city at the heart of their haven, and turned the dead against them.
