I’m Rafael Meneses, Payments Engineering Director at Automattic. I lead the teams behind WooPayments and the payments platform for WooCommerce and WordPress.com.
I’m based in Fortaleza, Ceará, in the northeast of Brazil, and I work fully remote.
My background is PHP and WordPress open source. Since 2014 I’ve helped run PHP com Rapadura, a free PHP community here in Ceará. Before payments I spent a few years on Tumblr’s backend and media stack – also Automattic.
I work mostly with PHP, Go and JavaScript. I write in Portuguese and English; the Portuguese blog lives at rtio.dev.br.
Teaching beats sharing. That’s why I still speak at events, and why I spent 2023 teaching web programming at a tech school here in Fortaleza.
Opinions here are mine.
