The White Lotus

HBO’s social satire, The White Lotus, captured audiences when it first premiered back in July 2021. Created by Mike White (Enlightened, School of Rock), the sun-drenched anthology is set over the course of a week and follows a group of wealthy, multi-generational travelers and hotel staffers as their picture-perfect getaway turns into a vacation from hell.

The first season of The White Lotus debuted with six episodes and garnered the attention of viewers and critics alike. The dramedy was initially set in Hawaii and shot at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, which served as the fictional hotel chain. The season one cast featured Jennifer Coolidge, who played guest Tanya McQuoid. In addition, Murray Bartlett starred as manager Armond. Connie Britton, Sydney Sweeney, Natasha Rothwell, Steve Zahn, Jake Lacy, Alexandra Daddario, Molly Shannon, Lukas Gage, and John Gries were also part of the ensemble. At the time, the buzzed-about series earned 20 nominations at the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards and won 10 of them.

HBO renewed The White Lotus for season two in August 2021 and the second installment aired in October 2022. This time, the season consisted of seven episodes and took place in Sicily, with the real-life Four Seasons San Domenico Palace standing in as the White Lotus resort property. In addition to switching up the location, the award-winning series featured an all-new cast (with one or two exceptions). The star-studded ensemble included Aubrey Plaza, Theo James, Meghann Fahy, and Will Sharpe. Tom Hollander, Haley Lu Richardson, Leo Woodall, F. Murray Abraham, Michael Imperioli, and Adam DiMarco also joined the cast. Season two dominated the Emmys yet again, scoring a staggering 23 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series.

Following season two, which concluded in December 2022, the network renewed The White Lotus for a third season. However, production on the highly anticipated season three was delayed due to the WGA and SAG strikes. Now slated to arrive in 2025, season three will be set in Thailand around Koh Samui, Phuket, and Bangkok. Filming began in February 2024 with another stacked cast that includes Leslie Bibb, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey, Carrie Coon, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Aimee Lou Wood, among others.
