In the gold-hued Plaza Hotel ballroom, beneath dazzling chandeliers, an army of philanthropists, New York power players, and everyday do-gooders will unite for a shared mission: to end elder hunger in the city. For the past four decades, the Citymeals on Wheels Power Lunch has been the organization’s largest annual fundraiser to gather the necessary resources to support its continued meal services and companionship for New York’s elderly population. Anyone interested in supporting this tremendously worthy cause is invited to the Plaza on November 19. The reception is at 11:30 a.m; lunch is at noon.

It is difficult to overstate the impact Citymeals on Wheels delivers in meals and connection. Last year, the organization provided more than 2.2 million meals to 22,000 older New Yorkers. Since its founding, the organization has delivered over 72 million meals in total and has committed to eliminating elder hunger in New York City by 2040. By partnering with older adult centers and community-based organizations in all five boroughs, Citymeals is supporting New York’s most vulnerable residents. But the organization needs resources to sustain its essential work and to achieve its laudable goal of ending elder hunger in the city in the next 15 years. Power Lunch helps Citymeals do both.

With the assistance of more than 400 philanthropic leaders and influential leaders, Power Lunch has raised over $33 million to date, to provide nourishing meals to New York City’s aging population. This year’s 38th annual Power Lunch will be emceed by Deborah Roberts, co-host of ABC’s 20/20 and Senior Correspondent for ABC News. The program will honor dedicated Citymeals supporter Suri Kasirer, CEO of Kasirer, and corporate partners Robb Report & WWD of Penske Media Corporation. Kasirer advocates and facilitates strategic translations between New York City’s private and public sector. Penske Media Corporation’s iconic brands include, but are not limited to, Rolling Stone, Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, and Variety. The event chairs are Derek Blasberg, Samantha Boardman, Margo M. Nederlander, and Lizzie Tisch.

Citymeals on Wheels welcomes all to Power Lunch because every single dollar raised will provide meals and connection for our older neighbors. It’s the perfect event to celebrate the organization’s work because, after all, sharing a meal is at the very heart of its cause.
