Warrant Officer Prerequisites and Duty Description
151A - Aviation Maintenance Technician
Duties:
Manages personnel, supplies, equipment, and facility assets to maintain and repair Army rotary, fixed-wing and unmanned aerial systems.  They develop and implement responsive maintenance and logistical support to achieve the missions assigned by the Aviation Maneuver Commander.  They organize maintenance elements to inspect service, test, disassemble, repair, reassemble, adjust, replace parts, retest aircraft or aircraft components. They prepare, implement, and maintain standing operating procedures for management of maintenance activities.  They interpret regulations, technical manuals, and orders pertaining to maintenance and logistics of Army aircraft for Commanders and subordinates.  They supervise aviation equipment maintenance, direct maintenance, and accountability of organizational test equipment, supplies, and recovery equipment.  Aviation Warrant Officers fill a unique role within Army Aviation as the technical and tactical experts of the branch providing long-term continuity of service within both conventional and special operations Aviation units.
 
***Applicants must meet all Administrative Requirements to become a Warrant Officer.***
 
Minimum prerequisites:
  • SGT (E5) or above (not-waivable)
  • Completed MOS producing school or achieved any of the following MOS: 15B, 15D, 15F, 15G, 15H, 15K, 15L, 15N, 15R, 15T, 15U, 15Y. (not-waivable)
  • Must have worked five of the last eight years in a feeder MOS (not-waivable)
  • Be an Advanced Leadership Course (ALC) graduate in a feeder MOS
  • At least one year’s experience as a Section Chief (skill level 30) or equivalent supervisory experience as defined in DA Pam 611-21
  • Supervisory experience must be documented in NCOER's
    • MOS competency and technical ability must be clearly stated on the NCOER
    • Supervisory capacity (leadership) in MOS by position or assignments must be clearly articulated and quantified (broadening assignments as Drill Sergeant do not qualify).
  • All applicants must have a digitally signed letter of recommendation (LOR) from an Army Aviation Maintenance Technician 151A (CW3 to CW5) currently serving (Not Retired) to accompany their Company and Battalion Commander LOR's. The Warrant Officer LOR must attest to the applicant’s technical/tactical competencies and potential for warrant officer service
  • No more than 12 years of Active Federal Service, on date that DA form 61 is signed

  • NOTE: Waivers (exceptions to policy) will be considered for applicants with exceptional qualifications and only on a case-by-case basis.

     

    Preferred qualifications (Minimum plus):

  • Associates degree, or better from an USDE/CHEA accredited institution.
  • Hold an Aircraft and Power Plant (A&P) certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA).
  • 7 - 10 years of Active Federal Service, on date that DA form 61 is signed.
