Forget logistical stress and complicated preparations. We’ve gathered everything you need to know to ensure your journey to Ragnerud is as smooth as a morning breeze over Kroppefjäll. Whether you’re rolling in by electric car, train, or hiking boots, we’ll make sure you have a soft landing and a personal welcome.

How do I find my way to Ragnerud and Kroppefjäll?
Answer: We are located in the southern part of Dalsland, at the foot of Kroppefjäll. Turn off Route 172 and follow the small road for 3 km until you reach us by Lake Ragnerud. Coming by train? Aim for Mellerud or Uddevalla, and then take the bus for the final stretch into the wilderness (bus stop: Tångelanda).

When can I check in, and when must I leave the tranquility?
Answer: Your cabin is ready from 2:00 PM. On the day of departure, we ask that you check out by 11:00 AM so we can prepare for the next adventurer. Our campsites have check-in and check-out at 3:00 PM. Want to stay longer? Just ask us – we also hate rushing home from the forest.

Can I bring my dog to Ragnerud?
Answer: Of course! Dogs make fantastic hiking companions. We have dedicated cabins where four-legged friends are more than welcome. Just remember to keep your dog on a leash in the nature reserve – we share the forest with wild neighbors. Dogs are also welcome in the restaurant and have their own swimming area down by the lake.

Is there parking for my car/motorhome if I’m only hiking for the day?
Answer: Absolutely. We have plenty of space for those using us as a starting point for their day adventure on Kroppefjäll.

Can I reach you without a car?
Answer: Yes, you can! There are bus connections to the nearby village of Högsäter, and we encourage all forms of climate-smart travel.

Is there a shop nearby if I’ve forgotten something?
Answer: We have a well-stocked mini-market in the main building with everything from local delicacies to the absolute essentials for your stay. There is also a grocery store in the nearest village, Högsäter (4 km away).

Can I arrive after the reception has closed?
Answer: No problem. We know that adventures don’t always follow a clock. We will send you clear instructions on how to find your spot after closing, as well as where to find your check-in envelope.

Can I charge my electric car directly at the cabin or campsite?
Answer: For safety reasons and to avoid overloading the system, charging directly from the power outlets at the cabins or campsites is not permitted. Instead, we have dedicated and secure charging stations for electric cars in the parking area.

Do I need to book in advance or can I just drop in?
Answer: During peak season, we strongly recommend booking in advance here on our website to secure your spot in "nature luxury." But we love spontaneity – if there’s space when you roll in, we’ll obviously sort it out on the spot.

What is the road to the resort like? Can I drive with a large vehicle/trailer?
Answer: The road here is a beautiful, small Dalsland road. It is paved and in good condition all the way to us. So, whether you’re driving a compact car or arriving with a large caravan setup, getting here is easy.

Is there a meeting point if several of us arrive at the same time?
Answer: Yes, we have a spacious area in one of our service buildings, as well as our café and restaurant, where you can wait while checking in. It’s the natural meeting point where the adventure begins.

What happens if I need help during the night?
Answer: Your safety is important to us. We have an emergency number available for urgent matters regarding your accommodation or the facilities when the reception is closed. We are always nearby if something unexpected should happen.

Do I need to bring physical booking confirmations?
Answer: We live in a digital world and love saving paper. It’s perfectly fine to show your confirmation on your phone or simply provide your name and booking number upon arrival.

Is there somewhere to store luggage if I arrive early?
Answer: Certainly. If your cabin isn't ready yet, or if you want to head straight out onto the fells after checking out, we’ll help you find a place for your bags so you can enjoy nature unhindered.

STAY & COMFORT

Where wilderness meets Boutique.
Who says adventure has to mean compromise? With us, you choose your level of closeness to nature – from our exclusive Boutique cabins to campsites right by Lake Ragnerud. Regardless of how you stay, the view of the lake is included in the price.

What is included in the cabins? Do I need to bring bed linens?
Answer: You can choose to bring your own linens or add them to your booking. All cabins are equipped with what you need to brew a proper cup of coffee before your morning hike or to prepare a meal. Please read the specifications for the specific cabin you are booking, as features like bathrooms vary slightly between cabins.

How do the campsites work?
Answer: Forget cramped asphalt lots. Our spots are designed for the view of Lake Ragnerud. We have pitches with electricity for motorhomes/caravans and nature-close tent sites for those who want to wake up with grass between their toes. We offer everything from gravel pitches and grass sites to spots with wooden decks. You can select your preference when booking.

Is there Wi-Fi, or is it a digital detox?
Answer: We offer Wi-Fi so you can share your adventures, but we hope you’ll find more important things to do. The deep wilderness has no coverage, but we promise you’ll find a better connection to yourself here. Think of it as a luxurious digital detox with an emergency transmitter in your pocket.

Is the accommodation open during winter?
Answer: We take a break from November to March and welcome you back from April to October, when nature is at its most vibrant.

Do you have laundry facilities for long-distance hikers?
Answer: Of course. One of our service buildings features a washing machine and tumble dryer so you can freshen up your hiking gear for the next stage. You pay with the "Ragnerud card," which you top up at reception. You then book your time slot in the laundry room.

Are there barbecue areas or grills at the cabins?
Answer: Many of our cabins have private patios, and we have several communal barbecue areas strategically placed so you can enjoy the glow of the fire. We also lend out smaller charcoal grills to those staying in our cabins.

How do the service buildings at the campsite work?
Answer: We have two fresh service buildings strategically located on the grounds. Here you’ll find everything you need: showers, toilets, a kitchen, and a dishwashing room. Access to showers and laundry is easily managed via the "Ragnerud card," which you top up at reception.

Are there duvets and pillows in all cabins?
Answer: Yes, all our cabins are equipped with comfortable pillows and duvets. The only thing you need to decide is whether to bring your own linens and towels or treat yourself to the luxury of renting a fresh set from us upon arrival.

Is smoking allowed in the cabins or on the porches?
Answer: No, all our cabins are strictly non-smoking to ensure a fresh environment for all guests. We also ask that you show consideration when smoking outdoors so that the fresh forest air remains fresh for everyone.

What kitchen equipment is available in the cabins?
Answer: Our cabins are fully equipped for self-catering. This means you’ll find porcelain, cutlery, pots, pans, and the most essential kitchen utensils. Naturally, there is also a stove, oven, coffee maker, and refrigerator in all cabins.

Do I need to clean the cabin myself before checking out?
Answer: You can choose to do the final cleaning yourself according to the checklist provided in the cabin, or you can book a final cleaning service when making your reservation. That way, you can enjoy one last hike or a sleep-in instead of mopping floors.

Are there power outlets at the tent sites?
Answer: We have tent sites both with and without electricity. If you want to be able to charge your phone or have a lamp in your tent, make sure to choose a site with electricity when booking through our online system.

How large are the campsites? Will my large motorhome fit?
Answer: We have pitches in various sizes to suit everything from small tents to large luxury motorhomes. In the booking system, you can see the dimensions of the different sites so you can choose one that gives you and your vehicle plenty of space and the best view.

Can I rent a cot or a high chair for the cabin?
Answer: Certainly, we are a family-friendly destination. High chairs and cots are available to borrow so that even the smallest adventurers sleep well and sit safely at the dinner table. Please let us know when booking, and we will place them in your cabin.

Is there a microwave in the cabins?
Answer: This varies between our different cabin types. Our more well-equipped cabins have microwaves, while the simpler "base camps" focus on the essentials. Check the specifications for your specific cabin on the booking page for exact info. There is also a microwave in the service building available for everyone to use.

Are the service buildings accessible?
Answer: Yes, we want everyone to be able to enjoy Ragnerud. There are adapted toilets and showers that are spacious and easy to use for guests with reduced mobility.

Which hiking trail on Kroppefjäll suits me best?
Answer: It depends on your pulse. The "bon vivant" chooses our lakeside paths with cozy fika stops. The adventurer tackles the steep climbs toward the Kroppefjäll plateau for mile-wide views. Drop by the reception, and we’ll match your mood with the right trail.

Do I need to be a pro to hike with you?
Answer: No, but you need to be curious. We have everything from easy paths to technically challenging trails. Unsure? The trails are well-marked, and maps are available for all of them. You can also hire a guide to show the way and share the secrets of the forest.

Can I rent equipment on-site?
Answer: Yes! We believe you don't need to own everything. You can rent everything from child carrier backpacks to high-quality hiking boots, camping stoves, backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, and hammocks. Why own when you can share?

Are the trails well-marked?
Answer: Yes, we place great importance on helping you find your way. The trails are clearly color-coded, and we continuously update our physical and digital maps for your safety.

What happens if I get lost on the fells?
Answer: We always recommend carrying our physical map and a charged mobile phone. Kroppefjäll is wild but manageable. We’re happy to give you our best tips for safe navigation before you head out.

Do you offer guided tours for groups?
Answer: Absolutely. We love showing our hidden gems to groups, companies, or parties looking for a deeper and more knowledgeable nature experience.

How long are the trails on Kroppefjäll?
Answer: We have everything from short loops of a few kilometers to full-day stages. The popular Kroppefjäll Trail spans 54 km for those seeking a real challenge, but most of our guests find their favorites between 5 and 15 km.

Can I hike with a stroller on your trails?
Answer: Our "Green Trail" along the creek is relatively flat and works well with a robust stroller (preferably with large wheels). If you want to head up onto the plateau itself, we recommend renting a child carrier backpack from us instead – it provides a much better experience for both children and adults.

Is there drinking water along the trails?
Answer: There are no official water stations out on the fells. We always recommend filling your bottles or hydration bladder with us before you start. You can always refill with fresh Dalsland tap water at our water outlets on the grounds.

What shoes should I wear for hiking on Kroppefjäll?
Answer: The terrain on the plateau can be rocky and occasionally wet. For shorter lakeside paths, good sneakers are enough, but for trips up the fells, we recommend boots or trail shoes with good grip and ankle support.

Is it allowed to build a fire on the fells?
Answer: Only at the fixed, marked barbecue areas and as long as there is no fire ban in effect. Remember that Kroppefjäll is a nature reserve – we protect the forest together. A camping stove is often a safer and more convenient alternative.

What time of year is hiking best?
Answer: May and June offer stunning greenery, while September and October bring crisp air and magical colors. But honestly? A sunny day in August when the heather is in bloom on the plateau is hard to beat.

Are there wind shelters for taking a break?
Answer: Yes, there are several strategically placed wind shelters on Kroppefjäll. They are perfect for a fika break with a view or as shelter if a rain shower passes by. You can see exactly where they are on our maps.

Can I take my dog on all trails?
Answer: Yes, dogs are welcome everywhere, but in a nature reserve, they must be on a leash year-round. This is to protect the wildlife and show consideration for other hikers.

How difficult is the climb up the fell?
Answer: The first stretch up toward the plateau is the steepest and is guaranteed to get your heart rate up. But once you’re up, it levels out, and you are rewarded with magical nature that makes every drop of sweat worth it.

Which trail offers the best view?
Answer: For the ultimate "summit feeling," aim for the Ragnerudssjön Branter nature reserve, where several spots along the trail offer great viewpoints. Ask us at reception for the "Scenic Tour."

Are there ticks or many mosquitoes on the fells?
Answer: As in all Swedish nature, they are present. We recommend long trousers in tall grass and checking yourself after the day's adventure. Mosquitoes are mainly found in the forested sections, while the open plateau often has a pleasant breeze.

Can you hike even if the ground is wet?
Answer: Yes, but it requires the right shoes. We have installed boardwalks over the wettest sections of the most popular trails to keep the hike drier and protect the ground from wear. We also rent out high hiking boots for those who want to stay dry and secure.

What should I always have in my daypack?
Answer: Water, extra high-energy snacks, a light rain jacket (weather can change quickly), blister plasters, and our map. A fully charged mobile is good, but don’t rely 100% on coverage.

How does the "Right of Public Access" (Allemansrätten) work in the nature reserve?
Answer: The Right of Public Access applies, but with limitations. For example, you may not pick flowers or break branches. Staying overnight for 24 hours in one spot is fine. Please read the information signs at the entrance to the reserve.

Are there moose or other wild animals on Kroppefjäll?
Answer: Yes, there are moose, roe deer, and capercaillie here. With a bit of luck (and silence), you might see them. Kroppefjäll is also known for its lynx population, but they are extremely shy and rarely spotted.

Can I hike alone on Kroppefjäll?
Answer: Absolutely, it is a safe place for solo hiking. The silence and tranquility are magical and become something truly special when you are by yourself.

Do you offer luggage transport for hikers?
Answer: For those hiking longer distances or multi-stage trails, we can often help with logistics and transport. Contact us before your arrival to see what we can arrange.

What is the "Kroppefjäll Plateau"?
Answer: It is the high-altitude part of the fells characterized by rugged nature, small tarns, and rocky pine forests. It feels almost like being in the mountain forests of the north, even though you are in Southern Sweden.

Can I restock supplies along the Kroppefjäll Trail?
Answer: No, once you are out on the longer trails, it’s pure wilderness. Make sure to bring everything you need for the day. We sell convenient lunch packs in the café, and remember to bring enough water for the entire hike.

Are there any dangerous trails?
Answer: None of our trails are "dangerous" in an alpine sense, but some sections are technically difficult with many rocks and roots where you need to watch your step.

What do I do with my trash on the fells?
Answer: What you take out, you bring back. We leave nothing in nature. There are bins at our facility where you can sort your waste after your hike.

How do I find peace and avoid other hikers?
Answer: Kroppefjäll is Southern Sweden's largest wilderness area but far from the most visited, so it’s never crowded. You very rarely encounter other hikers. Want to be completely alone? Choose one of the trails that starts a bit away from the main parking lot. We’ll be happy to point out the quietest spots.

Are there signs that tell about nature along the way?
Answer: At the nature reserves, there are information signs about flora, fauna, and geology. This makes the hike an educational experience for both adults and children.

Can I hike in running shoes?
Answer: For trail running, Kroppefjäll is fantastic! If you’re used to running off-road, trail shoes work excellently for fast hiking as well, but keep in mind it can be muddy after rain.

Can I buy food to take out on my hike?
Answer: Absolutely. In our café, we have lunch packs that are easy to carry, or our "Toastmaster kit," which is prepped and ready to be cooked over an open fire. Nothing tastes as good as a meal enjoyed in nature.

Can I order take-away from the restaurant?
Answer: Yes, you can. While we believe the experience is best on-site with us, you are more than welcome to take your meal back to your home or cabin.

Do you have a liquor license?
Answer: Yes, we offer a curated selection of wines and local craft beers – including our very own beer that can only be enjoyed here – as well as cocktails crafted with passion.

Do you offer a breakfast buffet?

What happens if I need to cancel?
Answer: Life happens. We have clear cancellation terms that you’ll find at the time of booking. We always recommend having travel insurance, but we always strive to be flexible and help you reschedule.

Can I change the date of my booking later?
Answer: Add our flexible cancellation protection to your booking, and you can change or cancel your stay up to 24 hours before arrival without any hassle.

Do you accept cash?
Answer: We accept cash, most major debit/credit cards, and Swish. We want your payment to be as smooth as your stay.

How do I pay for my booking?
Answer: You can pay safely and easily directly during the booking process on our website, or on-site if you choose to drop in.

Can I book multiple cabins for a large group online?
Answer: Yes, our booking system can handle multiple units. However, for very large groups or tailored events, we recommend contacting us directly for personalized service.

Are dogs welcome in the restaurant?

Can I visit the restaurant even if I’m not staying at the resort?

How often do you change the menu?
Answer: We follow the shifts of nature. This means we update the menu several times during the season to ensure we always serve ingredients when they are at their absolute best. You’ll always find something new and exciting here. Generally, we update the menu for spring, summer, and autumn.

Do you sell local products that I can buy and take home?
Answer: Yes, adjacent to the restaurant and reception, we have a selection of local delicacies. Everything from craft drinks to flavors that will remind you of Ragnerud long after you’ve returned home.

Do you offer dinner packages for hikers?
Answer: Yes, we have popular hiking packages that include accommodation, a breakfast basket, a lunch pack, and dinner. It’s the ultimate way to experience "Boutique Wilderness" without having to worry about the logistics.

Can the restaurant be booked for private events or weddings?
Answer: We love to celebrate! Our restaurant and the unique environment around Lake Ragnerud provide a stunning backdrop for weddings, birthdays, or corporate events. What time is dinner served?

Is there outdoor seating?

Answer: Yes, Lake Ragnerud is your partner for natural bio-hacking year-round. Combine a crisp dip with our warm sauna for the ultimate endorphin kick.

What does your "Forest Bathing" concept entail?
Answer: This is a space created within the woods where you can bathe your senses and allow yourself to be embraced by the tranquility of the forest.

Can I book yoga or mindfulness in nature?

Is it possible to go paddling at sunset?
Answer: Our canoes and SUP boards await you at the water's edge and are available for rent around the clock. Gliding out onto the lake as the sun turns Kroppefjäll to gold is an experience you won't soon forget.

Can I rent the sauna for private use even if I’m not staying with you?
Answer: Absolutely. Our lakeside sauna is for everyone in need of a moment of total relaxation. Remember to book in advance – the view over Lake Ragnerud is highly sought after, especially in combination with a dip from the pier.

Do you have mini-golf on-site?
Answer: Yes, we have one of Dalsland’s popular 12-hole courses. It’s the perfect arena for a prestigious family challenge after the day's hike. Clubs and balls are available at reception.

Can I rent a SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard)?
Answer: Definitely. Gliding silently across Lake Ragnerud on a SUP is the ultimate form of lakeside mindfulness. We have the gear ready for those who want to challenge their balance or simply enjoy the perspective from the water.

What types of boats can I rent?
Answer: We offer both kayaks and stable canoes (Canadians) for a classic tour, as well as rowing boats for those who want to go fishing or just take a peaceful trip with the family. Life jackets are always included for your safety. We even have life jackets for dogs.

What is the children's playground like?
Answer: Our playground is a natural gathering point on the edge of the resort, bordering the forest, designed for movement and play. We also have a "mobile phone ban" here – we want both children and adults to have the chance to be 100% present in play and build real memories.

Can I hike directly from the campsite or cabin?
Answer: That’s the beauty of Ragnerud. You don’t need to take the car anywhere. The trails toward Kroppefjäll start right outside your door, whether you’re looking for a short stroll or a full-day trek on the fells.

Are there good fishing waters nearby?
Answer: Lake Ragnerud is known for excellent fishing, especially for pike and perch. We sell fishing licenses at reception and are happy to share our best tips on where the fish are biting.

Do you offer any activities specifically for the winter season?
Answer: We are closed for accommodation during the coldest months (Nov–March), but nature is always open. During the "shoulder seasons," we highly recommend crisp autumn hikes or the very first spring tours when Kroppefjäll awakens.

Can I go cycling to explore the area?
Answer: The Dalsland roads around Ragnerud are fantastic for cycling without crowds or traffic, leading through rolling landscapes and small villages. Dalsland is famous as Sweden’s top destination for gravel biking, for example.

Are there any indoor activities if the weather changes?
Answer: Besides our restaurant being a warm and welcoming spot, we are happy to recommend local excursions nearby, such as exciting craft shops or museums that will keep you dry and inspired.

Is swimming possible on the grounds?
Answer: We have a fantastic swimming area with both a sandy beach and grassy lawns. The shallow shoreline makes it perfect for families with children, while the piers are excellent for a refreshing dive into the clear water.

Can I hike the famous "Kroppefjällsleden" from your location?
Answer: Yes, Ragnerud is the perfect starting point for the Kroppefjäll Trail. Ragnerud is the "Gateway to Kroppefjäll." We’ll help you with a map and provide the latest updates on the trail's status before you set off.

Are there any cultural or historical sites to visit during a hike?
Answer: Along the trails, you’ll pass the remains of old crofts and historical sites that tell the story of life in Dalsland in the past. We’re happy to suggest which paths lead to the most interesting historical landmarks.

How difficult is the terrain on the different trails?
Answer: We have something for everyone. From completely flat walks along the lake to steep climbs up the fells. Our hiking map includes a difficulty guide for all our trails so you can choose what suits your energy level for the day.

Can I book activities for a larger group, like a family reunion?
