Walk-in hours

Queer Futures offers unstructured time where folks can just hang out in a safe inclusive space. There is a Nintendo Switch, streaming services on the television, a library, games, and more if you’re here to have fun. You’re also welcome to work remotely, work on homework, or get together for a group project. Queer Futures is always equipped with after school snacks, coffee, and tea.

Walk-in hours are sometimes reserved for specific age groups, so make sure to check the Community Events Calendar before you stop by!

Queer Joy and Connection

We often host programs and events centered around joy and connection like Seph’s Community Dinner, karaoke night, Pride and Pow, crafting, and more, just for the sake of gathering, meeting people, building relationships, and having fun. Reach out and let us know if you’d like to do or lead a specific activity!

Check the Community Events Calendar to see what’s coming up.

Educational and Leadership Opportunities

Queer Futures offers opportunities to learn about your rights, health and safety, restorative justice, mutual aid, and more.

We offer volunteer opportunities for both youth and adults to take on a leadership role in their community through the Youth Leadership Committee, Queer Futures Steering Committee, Yampa Valley Pride committee, and more.

Affinity Groups

Affinity groups are spaces or programs that are exclusively for folks who share a particular identity. Those who are questioning are always welcome, but these programs aren’t for allies.

  • Age-specific programs
    • Many Queer Futures programs are age-specific. Check the Community Events Calendar to see what’s coming up for your age group!
  • Trans/Nonbinary Social
    • Each month, we host a program or social event specifically for folks who do not identify with their sex assigned at birth, or who are questioning their gender identity. These range from casual unstructured social events, game nights, processing difficult common experiences, and commemorating days such as Transgender Day of Remembrance.
    • Check the Community Events Calendar for the date and time of our next event.
  • Rotating Affinity Spaces
    • Each quarter, we try to host another affinity space, such programs just for bisexual+ folks, gay men, BIPOC folks, or folks with disabilities.
    • The center is by and for the community, and it is best for affinity groups to be led by folks like you. If you are interested in taking the lead on hosting or planning an affinity space for your community, please reach out to Chelsie at chelsie@queerfuturesco.org.

New members may join at any time, but for safety reasons, everyone must complete a screening and intake process prior to attending meetings. To join, please contact Hannah Kaufmann at hannah@advocatesrc.org.

Trauma Stewardship

This is a peer support group for helping professionals and activists facilitated by Chelsie Holmes on the first Wednesday of each month at 12pm at Queer Futures. Feel free to bring your lunch! The group centers around the concepts in the book Trauma Stewardship by Laura Vandernoot Lipsky. We’ll explore the unique impact of vicarious trauma on helpers and activists bearing witness to traumatic events and stories. We’ll discuss how our belief systems and about helping and our daily habits can either cause burnout or make us more resilient.

Contact Chelsie at chelsie@queerfuturesco.org with questions about this group

Conner Thomas Bomberg 1993-2021

Loving, Generous, Available, Fun, Favorite Companion

“Conner was born and raised in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He was a bright star. His superpower was his sensitivity to those in need, who he helped, without question, in any way he could. He lit up the room with electricity and had a way of connecting to people in a sensitive, kind manner, gravitating to anyone on “the fringe”. Conner gave people rides, clothing, shoes, and his presence. He felt their pain deeply, which sometimes left him feeling helpless and anxious.

Throughout his life, Conner enjoyed many outdoor pursuits including snowboarding, hiking, dirt biking, and snowmobiling. He loved traveling and, naturally, adapted to unique environments. He grew up with family vacations to the North Carolina coast. He visited Hawaii several times, rode camels in Mongolia, and enjoyed Cajun food in Congo Square during Jazz Fest in New Orleans. Conner became a professionally trained chef and worked in many local restaurants. He had a unique style and wore designer jeans, controversial tee shirts, and colorful socks.

Conner lived a life of mixed joys and challenges. His journey of sobriety led him to partnerships with NA, SoBoat, and CHOW. He developed a curiosity for mind and body wellness, practicing yoga, meditation, and physical fitness at the gym. Tattoo art and music often fueled his recovery. We invite you to gather in this place, in Conner’s spirit of friendship, peace, and recovery, to find connection and hope.”

Your feedback assists Queer Futures with identifying local organizations, service-providers, therapists, and businesses that are supportive of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. It also helps us offer training and hold institutions accountable when community members report a negative experience. You may complete this form anonymously, or request follow-up if you would like to be involved in a potential accountability process.

Queer Futures seeks to enhance and leverage community connections and resources to empower LGBTQIA2S+ people in navigating and improving systems.
