Generated municipal waste (kg per capita)

The indicator measures the waste collected by or on behalf of municipal authorities and disposed of through the waste management system. It consists to a large extent of waste generated by households, though similar wastes from sources such as commerce, offices and public institutions may be included. It is expressed in kilograms per capita.

Total waste generated (kg per capita)

The indicator is defined as total waste generated in a country including major mineral wastes (all NACE activities plus households). It is expressed in kilograms per capita.

Generation of waste excluding major mineral wastes per GDP unit (kg per thousand EUR 2010)

The indicator is defined as all waste generated (in mass unit), excluding major mineral wastes such as construction and demolition waste, asbestos waste, waste minerals, soil and excavation waste, per GDP unit. It is expressed in kilograms per thousand EUR at constant 2010 prices.
The data for the entire observed period are revised every year.

Generation of waste excluding major mineral wastes per domestic material consumption (%)

The indicator is defined as all waste generated (in mass unit), excluding major mineral wastes such as construction and demolition waste, asbestos waste, waste minerals, soil and excavation waste, divided by the domestic material consumption (DMC). It is expressed in percent.

Food waste generated (thousand tonnes)

The indicator measures the waste generated in production, distribution and consumption of food. It is expressed in thousand tonnes.

Food waste generated (kg per capita)

The indicator measures the waste generated in production, distribution and consumption of food. It is expressed in kilograms per capita.

Resource productivity (index 2000=100)

The indicator is defined as gross domestic product (GDP) divided by domestic material consumption (DMC). DMC measures the total amount of materials directly used by an economy.DMC is defined as the annual quantity of raw materials extracted from the domestic territory of the local economy, plus all physical imports minus all physical exports. It is important to note that the term 'consumption', as used in DMC, denotes apparent consumption and not final consumption. DMC does not include upstream flows related to imports and exports of raw materials and products originating outside of the local economy. The base year for comparisons is 2000, the value in this year is 100.

Generation of packaging waste (kg per capita)

Packaging' in this context means all products made of any materials of any nature to be used for the containment, protection, handling, delivery and presentation of goods, from raw materials to processed goods, from the producer to the user or the consumer. 'Non-returnable' items used for the same purposes shall also be considered to constitute packaging. It is expressed in kilograms per capita.

Generation of plastic packaging waste (kg per capita)

This indicator only includes plastic packaging. 'Packaging' in this context means all products made of any materials of any nature to be used for the containment, protection, handling, delivery and presentation of goods, from raw materials to processed goods, from the producer to the user or the consumer. 'Non-returnable' items used for the same purposes shall also be considered to constitute packaging. It is expressed in kilograms per capita.
