Total number of R&D personnel, expressed in headcounts, from 2017 onwards includes both internal and external R&D personnel (before only internal).

Additional notes

Some totals do not add up due to rounding. Due to methodological changes (including statistical data protection) made in the R&D survey for 2017, which had a substantial impact on the values of some data, data at a more detailed level are published in new separate tables as some data for 2017 are not fully comparable with the data for the previous years.
