MATERIAL DEPRIVATION STATUS

Material deprivation status indicates whether a person is severe materially deprived or not. Materially deprived persons are those living in households whose living conditions are severely constrained by a lack of financial resources, irrespective of persons’ preference with respect to these items. They experience at least four out of nine following deprivations items: cannot afford 1) to pay rent or mortgage, utility bills, loan payments, 2) to keep home adequately warm, 3) to face unexpected financial expenses, 4) to eat meat, fish or a protein equivalent every second day, 5) a week holiday away from home, 6) a car, 7) a washing machine, 8) a colour TV, or 9) a telephone.

The results of SILC are based on a survey conducted in the beginning of the year and on register and administrative data mostly referring to one year before survey is conducted.

SELF-ASSESSMENT

The data refer to persons aged 16 and over who evaluated or appraised their life taken as a whole on the scale from 0 (Not at all satisfied) to 10 (Completely satisfied).
Some totals do not add up due to rounding.
