Following retirement from UNC Asheville and previous positions at Warren Wilson College, Swannanoa, NC, and UC Irvine, my interests turned to Eastern Kentucky, where I was invited to serve on the BOT of a small historic Settlement School in Harlan County, Kentucky. I was born at the school and was eager to share the remarkable history of the institution with a broader public. With a cousin, Ann Angel Eberhardt, who was also connected through her parents with Pine Mountain Settlement and had retired from the Smithsonian, we began developing https://pinemountainsettlement.net, the WordPress resource. As volunteers and Trustees associated with the Settlement School, we have been attempting to keep pace with the digital revolution and a large body of Appalachian history for over 18 years.
