Project for the creation of new logos, modifications of existing ones, or new versions. This is specifically about the images themselves - for for uploading new ones use Wikimedia-Site-requests and such.
Can probably use this for icons as well, especially for standalone sorts - for some things there's a bit of an overlap anyway, such as for mw components and other tools. The point is we need something for visual identification for these.

I plan to make the logo script generate thumbnails itself rather than relying on MediaWiki's. The script already uses rsvg-convert to resize svgs (for wordmarks etc.) so it could do the same for PNGs. That would resolve the expectations mismatch between this and other uses of thumbnails that is becoming increasingly apparent.
The discussion closed without a specific determination on what to do with the logo, but I think it's fairly safe to say that there's support to have the logo on for longer. I'm unlicking this task for now to avoid the implication that it's actively being worked on. Nevertheless, the patch remains valid, just unscheduled. If anyone has opposition; please feel free to make your voice heard. If you want to pick this task up yourself, also feel free to build off the existing revert patch.

There's no deploy window on 15th, so we have to postpone the deploy of logo to 02-16 (https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Deployments#deploycal-item-20260216T0800). It's so near CNY eve so we need to be very careful about the time.

Noting here that there's a proposal to extend the logo until March 16 to complement Birthday Mode (MediaWiki-extensions-WP25EasterEggs).
