I am not sure if this comment should in fact be a separate task or not, but fwiw:

Echoing the wish in T403775 (merged here) for sort by page name.

Couldn't a relatively low-tech solution solve this, at least on an interim basis while the underlying problem is dealt with? I would propose a change which for mobile only, would transform transclusions of a Navbox template into links to the Navbox template page itself. There would be nothing to expand; just a bar that looks like a Navbox title bar, but in reality is just a link with nothing hiding under it. This seems doable in the {{Navbox}} template itself.

@ppelberg, this is in response to your original, seedling post, and in particular, how to mitigate any damage to editor retention that may occur when an editor's first interaction with a Wikipedian is a warning on their user talk page, typically topped with a dry, ==Month YYYY== header. I am involved with two activities that result in messages on the user talk pages of new users:
- as a member of the Welcoming Committee, I welcome new members, mostly via one of the Welcome templates; I also improve Welcoming Committee templates and procedures;
- placing warnings about violations of Wikipedia Policy and guidelines, usually via one one of the warning templates (WP:WARN) to protect the encyclopedia.

[edited] If this concerns only edits involving the Reply tool, then my original comment here is invalid. It involved a test of Talk:Armenian genocide/Fadix Analysis (594,038 bytes), and PP data showed CPU = 0.275 and Real = 0.287. Sounds like this is not relevant here, as this test did not use the Reply tool, but if it is, I will restore the comment.

I have started discussion Wikipedia talk:Short description#Android app instruction to users about SD in order to solicit feedback from the users most familiar with Short descriptions about how they might word the text on the Android app. Hopefully we will see some good responses there.

A data point: this happened to me today. Details at WP:VPT. The silent recreation is very confusing, and I didn't suspect it at first, viewing it as a failure of the history tab to show all versions. The truth eventually dawned on me as I investigated further, and as @PrimeHunter kindly added this tracking link.

Subscribed myself. (Apologies for this pointless comment—I used to be able to add myself as a subscriber by hitting Submit on an empty comment as recently as a few days ago, but apparently no longer.)

Is it fully working? Consider :c:File:Chronologie constitutions françaises.svg, a wide, horizontal timeline image with inner labels and callouts. Due to the size of the diagram, the callouts are really only visible at max zoom, but there seems to be a problem with that. It is used at five Wikipedias, including these three articles in French, Catalan, and German:
- fr: Constitution française de 1852 (French) ⟶ underlying link, click-1, click-2
- ca: Constitució francesa de 1791 (Catalan) ⟶ underlying link, click-1, click-2
- de: Französische Verfassung (1791) (German) ⟶ underlying link, click-1, click-2
Mousing over the image in the article is 'underlying link'; clicking it takes you to click-1; clicking again takes you to click-2.

Please change the task name to Define where/how to report Edit Filter false positives (or something like it). When I see "false positive" without context, I tend to think of unwarranted reports of missing citations reported by Module:Footnotes. No doubt others might think of something different, depending where their interests lie.

Most recent occurrence that I am aware of is at Template talk:Skip to bottom. We're struggling to come up with work-arounds; this one may be amenable to a common.css update, but that only fixes it for one user at a time, and only applies to this one case.

I went to the contact page for Oxford Academic, and found a Live Chat button on the page (chat is available
09:00 – 22:00 BST, M– F). There's also a link for managing your institutional account, as well as a U.S. cust. svc. number for journals (800-852-7323) who can maybe tell you who to contact, if they're not the right one.

@Xaosflux's comment above sounds like a more generalized (and much more succinct) version of something I was trying to say at T327330#8607428. Money quote:

Regarding NOTOC, I suspect we're going to need either a magic word like {{CURRENTSKIN}}, or something like NOTOC10 (for Vector 2010), and NOTOC22 (and maybe NOTOC17 ?).

you're of course welcome to set the title back :-)

@TheresNoTime, I originally opened this ticket, and although it appears that others have seen this on Vector 2022, I never have—I've seen it exclusively on Vector 2010. Can you please explain why this was renamed on Mar 17 2023, 3:53 AM from "annotations load, but without yellow highlighting" (which seems accurate to me in its generality) to "annotations load, but without yellow highlighting in Vector 2022", which does not cover the bug I originally encountered? If the original bug concerning Vector 2010 has not already been fixed, any objection if I rename it back again?

Is this open, either on a full-participant, or observer-only basis? There is intense interest in this topic at Wikipedia.

When using the source editor, I'm afraid that there isn't really anything we can do about this (other than generating better names for the references).
The quick answer is, I don't know; depends what the student actually did, and it's not clear to me (yet).
Apr 4 2023
Another possible solution occurs to me: a VE-sandbox-main-link function, which would be usable from sandboxes and would provide a VE user with an input field where they could enter the name of the main article for this sandbox. (Maybe the function would search for 'User:Example/ArticleName' and pop it up as a 'suggestion' if it existed; ditto for 'User:Example/sandbox', if it contained an H2 heading matching 'ArticleName' near-ish the top of page.)
Mar 28 2023
At en-wiki, users often use their user sandbox for developing content, so userspace should be considered as well. In particular, students in the Wikipedia Education program are instructed to do so. A user sandbox is a subpage in User space, so that should be kept in mind for your config.

Thanks for the tip!
Hi, Aklapper, I see what you mean, and I don't understand enough about where the locus of the problem is. I had thought it was part of the inline ref-tag +"<references/>" magic of linking footnotes to a set of references (which I'm pretty sure is part of mw software) but based upon what you said above, it appears that the problem I reported is different and unrelated to that, and so probably does not belong here. I'll look around some more and try to find the right place for this report (any tips appreciated) but in the meantime, it looks like you can close this. Sorry for the bogus report.

For better or worse, google search is often better than our advanced search. Not sure if that's the case here, because I don't know if that JSON result was all of it, or has continuation pages. In any case, googling site:en.wikipedia.org intitle:"Template talk:Editnotices/Page/" claims 756 results. You can see google's ranking algo trying to pick out the "most relevant" ones, and my guess is that because the query is so technical, PageRank is almost all of it, with "popular" pages bubbling to the top.

Yes, sorry, I did mean AutoWikiBrowser. That particular comment was almost a throw-away line, and not at all important to the scheme I was sketching. The only thing I meant about AWB (which I don't use) is that it keeps all its rules in one place (or, a few big places) in the form of a file that contains hundreds of regexes for fixing typos. That's all I meant by "how AWB does it", and the only import of that statement was as a metaphor for how an implementation via templates might work, by possibly creating a template called Template:EditCheck, under which dozens of subtemplates might live, each holding a structure for one edit check task, so, also "keeps it all in one place, like AWB does it".

With apologies to all wrt adding comments here that aren't directly in the task cycle of this ticket as cautioned by WaId above, I have one bit of great news to report, which I'm pretty sure everyone here who has faced this issue would love to know about, and I don't know how else to bring it to your attention.

First time I've seen this symptom: yellow highlighting disappeared while viewing an annotated page.
