Description
ADJUSTABLE FOLDABLE POSTURE CORRECTION MOBILITY CHAIR
CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0001] This application claims priority from Indian Patent Application Number 202231019830, entitled “ADJUSTABLE FOLDABLE POSTURE CORRECTION MOBILITY CHAIR”, filed on March 31, 2022, which application is hereby incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0002] The present invention generally relates to a chair. More specifically the invention relates to an adjustable foldable posture correction mobility chair.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0003] The following background information may present examples of specific aspects of the prior art (e.g., without limitation, approaches, facts, or common wisdom) that, while expected to be helpful to provide additional aspects of the prior art, is not to be construed as limiting the present invention, or any embodiments thereof, to anything stated or implied therein or inferred thereupon.
[0004] Ordinary or conventional chairs are not adequate to assist in satisfying the special needs of children or a user with cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, spina -bifida, brain injury or the like. For example, when the seat of an ordinary chair does not properly support the user in an appropriate position, thus resulting unnatural posture for the user, which becomes detrimental to normal development. Conventional chairs are not medically useful for posture correction of the user. Further, if an expensive custom chair of fixed geometry is provided considering the existing problem and existing size of the user, then it is useful but only until it becomes more advantageous to change the chair configuration. Hypotonic children with poor neck and trunk muscle control may only be able to sit up and hold their heads erect for short periods of time. Generally, the children are forced to spend much of their time lying on the floor which
is good for development of head control but detrimental to their respiratory systems etc. When seated in ordinary chairs their heads tend to fall over to one side or pitch forward beyond range of their limited control and this tends to cause their bodies to slump into a scoliotic curve which may become permanent. Other similar several types of problem may arise, if each and every uncontrolled body part of the user is not taken care of for correct position correction and to improve the stability of such a child in maintenance of a sitting position and thereby permitting the child more useful movement and development of hand activities and operations.
[0005] Numerous innovations have been provided in prior art that are adapted to a chair for improvising posture correction of a user suffering from cerebral palsy or the like or any person needs to correct his/her posture. Even though these innovations may be suitable for the specific purposes to which they address, however, they would not be as suitable for the purposes of the present invention.
[0006] For example, in previous application for patent by the applicant which is now a registered Indian patent 407228 (Application Number 201731007185 ) to Halder et al., wherein the invention discloses an adjustable posture correction chair for improvising posture correction and controlled limb and trunk movement for a person or a child suffering from abnormal conditions like cerebral palsy, down"s syndrome, spina bifida, brain injury or the like any person needs to correct his/her posture. The adjustable chair comprises a seat, an adjustable back rest, an adjustable foot rest, an adjustable pair of armrests, an adjustable pair of shoulder guards, two backwardly inclined back legs, two front legs, a cutout tray, an adjustable pommel, adjustable C shaped pelvic supports and fixtures and additionally leg guards, trunk support, an adjustable headrest and the like. The chair provides height, depth, width and angle adjustable features to hold the user in a desired position to achieve quick improvement in posture correction and controlled limb and trunk movement of the user. However, while travelling and transportation it is realized to make the chair foldable so that it can be transported or carried easily, further easy and quick adjustability of the elements of the chair is also essential.
[0007] Some other chairs are also identified in the prior art, wherein a U.S. Pat. No. 3,761,126 to Mulholland discloses about a chair especially useful for children with cerebral palsy has a super structure portion that can be totally uncoupled by way of two support posts from a substructure portion constituted by a wheeled base.
[0008] U.S. Pat. No. 3,992,057 to Studebaker discloses about a chair, especially useful for children with cerebral palsy, which has a backrest integral with a height adjustable seat. The backrest is provided with a chest strap for height adjustably strapping a child's chest erect. Adjustable armrests are fastened to the backrest in and out, and up and down. The seat is movable towards and away from the backrest.
[0009] U.S. Pat. No. 5,020,816 to Mulholland discloses about a collapsible wheelchair having opposing longitudinally and angularly adjustable frame members, linear bar sections with slots and slidable fasteners.
[0010] European Pat. No. EP2821034B1 to Belloch discloses about an orthopedic corset with - an inner shell, at least one foam block and an outer shell forming a back and a seat, provided with linear perforations and fastening elements introduced into the linear holes of the frame and the fastening strips perforations to adjust the chair according to the user requirement.
[0011] Chinese published patent application No. CN203749022U to Kaishou et al. disclose about an adjustable sitting posture correction chair which comprises a chair seat, a chair back and a neck support. The adjustable sitting posture correction chair further comprises body protection plates, side baffles and a plurality of adjustable connection supports. Point fixation and rail fixation are combined, the height, width and depth can be adjusted according to growth conditions of children, and the effects of lengthening, widening and deepening are played; because of the design of the universal ball bearing at the neck support, the height, the width and the depth of the neck support can be adjusted in a three-dimensional mode, and the needs of children with different levels of head control capacity are met.
[0012] It is apparent now that numerous innovations for a chair for improvising posture correction of a user suffering from cerebral palsy or the like have been
developed in the prior art that are adequate for various purposes. Furthermore, even though these innovations may be suitable for the specific purposes to which they address, accordingly, they would not be suitable for the purposes of the present invention as heretofore described. Thus, an inexpensive, easy to adjust, easy to manufacture and adjustable and foldable mobility chair for improvising posture correction and controlled limb and trunk movement for a person or a child suffering from abnormal conditions like cerebral palsy, down’s syndrome, spina bifida, brain injury or the like while allowing easy transportability of the chair is needed.
