Description
RIP. PRENDERGAST. GARMENT. APPLICATION TILED NOV. 16, 1909.
Patented Apr.5, 1910 nTnHAILD P. PBENDERGAST, OF GALVESTON, TEXAS.
GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 16, 1909. Serial No. 528,389.
Patented Apr-)5, 1910.
i To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, RICHARD P. PRENDER- GAST, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Galveston, in the county of Galveston and State of Texas, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Garments, of.which qlpe following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to garment for wear by engineers, firemen and other persons whose occupationscompel them to spend considerable of their tlme in abnormally heated places, and the principal object of the same is to provide a garment for wear next to the bodyso that chafing of the limbs will be prevented.
In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the essential features of the same are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodimentof which is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a front perspective view of the improved garment. Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view thereof. .Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation showing the practical use of the garment.
Referring to said drawings by numerals, 1 designates the flat body belt whose ends may i be fastened at the front by the buttons 2 or other suitable fasteners. At the rear the belt is provided with two spaced apart eyeleted strips 3 which are adjustably connected by the lacing 4- so that the size of the belt may be varied.
Each thigh portion 5 has its outer side provided with a vertical slot 9 that extends from the lower edge thereof upward through.
the major portion of the garment, the vertical edges of said slot being connected by the re ularly spaced apart horizontally arrangedelastm straps 10.
It will be seen from the foregoing that the improved garment will protect the thighs of the wearer so that the same will not contact, thereby preventing the thighs being chafed, such as is a common complaint with engineers, firemen and others who are employed in highly heated places. It will also be seen that the connecting and suspending straps employed bein of elastic material, they will readily yield to all movements of the wearer.
Preferably the improved garment is formed of light material, such as linen, and may be wornbeneath the usual under-garments.
hat I claim as my invention is 1. A garment of the class described comprising a body belt, thigh protectors havin their outer side reduced and projected anc fastened to said belt, suspending means connecting the front and rcarof said protectors to said Joelt and a connection between the innor upper end of each protector.
2. A garment'of the class described comprising a body belt, thigh protectors having the upper portion of their outer side reduced and fastened to said belt and their lower portion provided with a vertical slot, elastic straps connecting the vertical edges of said slot, elastic suspending straps connecting the front and rear upper edges of said protectors with said'belt, and an elastic strap connection between the inner ends of the uppered e of said protectors.
n testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
RICHARD P. PnEND RoAsr.
Witnesses: JAMES T. PRENnnReAsT, P. SANDERS.
