To all whom 'it may concern:

Be itknown that I, JOHAN Osons ANDER- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Souris, in the county of Bottineau and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Window-Shade and Lace-Curtain I-Iolder, of which the following is a specilication.

This invention relates to improvements in a device to be used for holding a window shade roller and a curtain pole, and consists in certain peculiarities of the construction, novel arrangement, and operation of the various parts thereof, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and speciically claimed.

The principal object of the invention is to provide a combined holder for window shade rollers and lace curtain poles, which shall be simple and inexpensive in construction, easily secured in position on the window-frame or removed therefrom, and of such construction, when desired, that its parts may be adjusted to suit window-frames of different widths.

Another object of the invention is to so construct the parts of the holder that the portion thereof which supports the curtain pole may be adjusted to certain angles with respect to the part which supports the shade roller, or may be folded thereto.

A still further object is to provide means whereby the curtain poile may be easily removed from its support or placed in position thereon after the curtain has been attached thereto and will hold the curtain in the desired position on the pole without the use of other fastening means, such as forming a hem or loop therein or by means of pins and the like.

Various other objects and advantages of the invention will be disclosed in the subjoined description and explanation.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention pertains, to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe it, referring to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a face view of a combined window shade and lace curtain holder embodying the invention, showing the parts arranged ready for use and illustrating the curtain pole secured in place thereon; Fig. 2 isa cross-sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. l looking in the direction indicated bythe arrows, showing the holder secured to a portion of a window-casing and illustrating a shade and curtain extended downwardly from the roller and pole respectively; and Fig. 3 is a similar view of like parts, showing a modification in the means for holding the curtain pole in position on its support, and illustrating the curtain pole supporting member of the holder by dotted lines in its folded or raised position.

Like numerals of reference, refer to corresponding parts throughout the different views of the drawing.

The holder is herein sho-wn as being made adjustable lengthwise, or so that its parts may be telescoped together to suit windowframes of different widths, but I desire it understood that I do not wish to be limited to the adjustability of the parts, as the holders may be constructed of suitable lengths to suit window-frames of different widths. In thepresent instance, however, the holder is shown as being made of two shade roller holding sections or pieces 5 and 6, preferably of sheet metal, slightly curved in cross-section as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing, and each having at its upper portion an ornamental bead 7 extending longitudinally thereof and circular in cross-section. At its lower portion each of the pieces 5 and 6 is provided between its ends with a longitudinally extended tubular portion 8 to receive a pivot rod 9 which is extended therethrough, as well as through tubular portions 10 on the upper portions of the curtain pole holding members 11 and 12, each of which members is made of a single piece, preferably of sheet metal, bent longitudinally and centrally of itself so as to form tubular portions 10 at their upper parts to receive the pivot rod 9, and to form the depending sides 13, each of which has near its lower end an outwardly curved part lll to form bearings for the curtain pole 15 on which a lace or other kind of curtain 16 may be secured by being placed or looped thereover as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, or otherwise secured thereto. At its outer end each oit the pieces 5 and (5 is provided with a transversely disposed upright bracket 17, each of which is provided with a slot 1S to receive the stub-shafts on the shade roller 19, which may be ofthe ordinary or any well-known construction, but preferably of an automatically springactuated type, upon which roller is mounted a shade 20 ot any suitable kind. Each of the brackets 17 has on its edge adjacent to the wimlow-casin0` 21 a vertical flange 22 which may be secured to the window-casing by means ot screws passed through suitable openings therein.

As will be understood by reference to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, the depending sides 13 of the curtain pole holding members are provided with a series of openings 24 which register with one another, and are located above the curved portions 14 of said sides. Each pair of said openings has extended therethrough a broken ring-like spring 25 which will stride thesaid curved portions, and will engage with their lower ends the lower portions of the sides 13 of the curtain pole holding members as shown at 26 in Fig. 2 of the drawing, thus clamping said curved parts on the curtain pole 15, which is preferably tubular in form and made of two pieces adapted to telescope with one another at their meeting ends. By this arrangement it will also be understood that the springs 25 will cause the sides 13 of the curtain pole holding members to lit closely on the pivot rod 9 so that the members 1l and 12 may be adjusted to dil'lierent angles with respect to the shade roller holding members or folded thereagainst as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3 of the drawing, in which ligure a modification in the construction of the curtain pole holding members is shown, which consists in forming the depending sides 13 f with registered openings 27 for the reception of screws 28 which may be provided on one of their ends with ornamental nuts 29, by tightening which on the screws 2S it is apparent that the sides 13 will not only be clamped on the pivot rod 9 but will also be clamped on the curtain pole 15 and the curtain which surrounds the same at its upper portion. It will be understood that the meeting ends of the pieces 5 and 6 and the meeting ends olf the beads 7 thereon will be so formed that they may telescope together, and further, that the meeting ends of the pivot rod 9 and curtain pole 15, both of which are formed or two tubular pieces, will be made so as to telescope with one another.

As'beiiore stated, l do not desire to be limited to making' the combined holder of two lengthwise adjustable sections, as it is obvious that l may make the shade roller holding member of a single piece having` at each et its ends a bracket provided with means to hold the stub-shafts of the shade roller, and hinge to the lower portion of said roller holding membera lace curtain'holding member, which may be provided with the springs 25 or screws and nuts 2S and 29 for securing the sides thereof together.

From the foregoing and by reference to the drawing it will be readily understood and clearly seen that when the holder is made adjustable as shown and above-de scribed, the parts may be assembled by litting the meeting ends oit the beads 7, shaderoller 19, pivot-rod 9 and curtain-pole 15, one within the other, and overlapping the pieces 5 and G, as well as the depending sides 13 of the curtain pole holding member, when the saine may be telescoped together until the outer ends of the holder carrying the brackets 17 will assume the proper positions to iit the window-frame or casing. It is further obvious that the shade-roller 19 may have a shade 20 of any suitable kind wound thereon, and that a curtain 16 of any suitable kind may be looped over or otherwise secured at its upper portion to the curtainpole 15, when by tightening t-he depending sides 13 by means oi' the springs 25 or screws and nuts 2S and 29, respectively, the curtain and its pole will be irmly held between the curved port-ions 14 of the curtain pole holding member, which member may be adjusted tol the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3, or at any suitable angle with respect to the shade roller holding member.

It will also be understood from the above description that the invention is susceptible of considerable modilication without material departure from the principles and spirit of the invention, and for this reason I do not desire to be limited to the exact construction and arrangement of the parts herein set forth in carrying out my invention in practice.

Having thus fully described my invention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is-

1. The combination with a shade roller holding member having at each of its ends a transversely disposed bracket adapted to be secured to a window-casing or other upright support, of a shade roller journaled at its ends in said brackets, a curtain pole holding member hinged to the lower portion ot the shade rol-ler holding member and having a pair or' pendent sides, a. curtain-pole located longitudinally between the lower portion of said sides, and means to secure the side members together and to clamp the same on the curtain-pole.

2. rlfhe combination with a shadeA roller holding member consisting of two pieces adjustably connected together at their meeting ends and each having at its outer end a transversely disposed bracket adapted to be secured to a window-oasing or other support, of a shade-roller j ournaled at its ends in seid brackets, a, curtain pole holding member hinged to the lower portion of the shade roller holding member and consisting of two pieces each having t pair of pendent sides and adjustebly connected together at their meeting ends, a curtain-pole located longitudinally between the lower portion of saidy 10 sides, and means to secure the sides together and to clamp the same on the ourteinole.
