Be it known that I, MARLIN thrones, a citizen of: the United States, residing at Longton, in the county of Elk and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mechanics Adjustable T restles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing:
My invention relates to trestles for the use of carpenters, oin'ers, plasterers, painters, and'other mechanics: and the object of the invention is to provide a trestle which can be constructed at asmallcost, is light in weight,

Similar reference numerals indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views. As contemplated by my invention, the cross beam 1, having a suitable metallic protective covering 2 on opposite-sides thereof, is adapted to be detachably connected to the uprights 3, provided with a similar covering 4, by means of right-angular sockets 5, which I temporarily secure by fastening means, such for'example, as bolts 6. The sockets 5 are terminally cgnnected by the diagonally disposed braces 7, and in this-manner-,rigidshowing the T0 the accomplishment of the recited objectsand others coordinate therewith, the preferred embodiment of my invention 're ity is imparted to the cross beam 1. connections therefor, I have devised means for adjusting the assemblage, or the trestle proper, vertically, said means comprising a casing 9, oi substantially triangular-contour in cross section, cast or formed of a single piece of metal, and having a central socket 10 for the reception of said uprights 3, which when elevated to the desired position, may be engaged by the screws 11, and. thus sccured. This structure is adapted to be sup ported by legs 12, which are fastened to thc outside inclined sides of the metallic casing 9, preferably by bolts 13.
As will appear obvious,.I can attain any elevation of the trestle that convenience may dictate, by simply manipulating the screws 11, and incident the adjustment, very little strength need be exerted, owing particularly to the lightness of the cross beam and uprights, and the slight frictional. resistance. Having thus described the invention, what I I claim, is:

A mechanics trestle, comprising, in combination, a pair of uprights, a cross beam, metallic strips secured on opposite sides of said. uprights andbeam, the latter beingdetachably connected by right-angular metallic sockets, the inner side of each socket lying contiguous the upper horizontal portions thereof and serving as a-stop for said beam, braces for said sockets, a pair of substantially triangular shaped metallic casings, legs se cured to the exterior inclined sides of said casing, and a centrally disposed socket within said casing, said uprights being adapted to move therein, and screws carried by the casing for engaging the metallic coverings of the uprights and thereby securing the latter "in their adjusted position.

A m'echanics trestle, comprising in combination a pair of uprights, a cross beam, metallic strips secured on opposite sides of said upright and beam, the latter being de- 'tachably connected by right angular jmetal lic sockets, braces for said sockets, a pair of substantially triangular shaped metallic casings, legs secured to the exterior inclined side of said easing, the, latter having spaces on opposite sides of the centrally disposedv socket, said spaces being closed at the top,
and open at the bottom for permittingaccess to the fastening means of said legs, said uprights being adapted to move in said medially arranged socket, and screws carried by the casing for engaging the metallic covering of the uprights and thereby securing the latter in their adjusted positions.
4. A mechanics trestle, comprising in combination a pair of uprights, a cross beam, metallic strips securedon opposite sides of said uprights andbeam, the latter being detachably connected by right-angular metallic sockets, the inner. side of each socket lying contiguous the upper horizontal portions thereof and serving as a stop for said beam, braces for said sockets, a pair of substantially triangular shaped metallic casings, legs secured to the exterior inclined sides of said casing, the lower terminals of the horizontal portions of said right angular supports being adapted to engage the upper terminals of said casing, a centrally disposed socket within said casing, said uprights being adapted to move therein, and screws carried by-the casing for engaging the metallic coverings of the uprights and thereby securing the latter intheir adjusted positions.
