AR'ITHUR BURKHOLDER, 0F LINOOLNVILLE, OKLAHOMA.
TUBE AND ROD CLAMP.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR BURKHOLDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lincolnville, Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tube and Rod Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to clamps for supporting tubes and rods in a well, while another section is being connected to the same, the object being to provide a clamp which is so constructed, that the tube or rod can be raised and supported in any desirable position, so that another section can be con nected or disconnected therefrom.
Another object of my invention is to provide a clamp which can be adjusted to suit different size tubes or rods.
\Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification:Figure 1 is a side view of my improved clamp showing it attached to a tube. Fig. 2 is a top view of the clamp. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the clamping members.
In the drawing A and B indicate a pair of clamping members provided with central enlargements, having curved inner faces, the face of the member A is roughened and is adapted to engage the tube or rod, so as to prevent the same from turning, and the member B being provided with a socket in which is pivotally mounted a biting member C, adapted to engage the rod or pipe, and pre- Specification of Letters Patent.

vent the same from dropping in the well, and at the same time allowing the tube or rod to be moved upwardly.
The members are provided with transverse slots adjacent their ends, in which are mounted connecting bars D and E which are provided with a series of openings adapted to aline with vertical bores formed in the clamping members which extend through the slots and in which pins F are adapted to be placed for locking the connecting bars in place, and it will be readily seen that clam )ing members can be adjusted in respect to t iemselves, so as to fit any size tube or rod. The socket is formed in one end of each of the clamping members, in which a bar is adapted to be placed when it is desired to turn the clamp, so as to unscrew or screw up a tube or rod when the clamp is arranged thereon.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A clamp comprising a pair of clamping members provided with central enlargements having curved inner faces, the face of one of said members being roughened and a socket formed in the face of the other member, a biting member pivotally mounted in said socket, slots formed in the said members, connecting bars provided with a series of openings mounted in said slots, pins for locking said bars in said slots, to ether with an opening for receiving a bar for turning said clamp, for the purpose set forth.
ARTHUR BURKHOLDER.
