Description

A. M. REED. OBSTETRIGAL APPLIANCE. I APPLIOATION FILED 0('J'1. 19 1907.
Patented Se t,- 22, 1908.
dlformgl UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOBSTETRICAL APPLIANCE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 22, 1908.
Application filed October 19, 1907. Serial No. 398,221.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANNIE MAY REED, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Obstetrical Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descri tion of the invention, such as will enable ot ers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful im rovements in surgical appliances, especia ly designed for use in obstetrical practlce in the delivery of child birth, and comprises an adjustable strap arrangement for attachment to a bedstead, and capable of vertical as well as lateral adjustment.
More s ecifically the present invention consists o the usual looped straps, whichare fastened to or integral with a vertically disposed adjusting strap secured about the foot rails of the bedstead, and capable of adjustment to bring the. looped straps to bear at different positions upon or against the foot posts of the bedstead.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts in the several views and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the apparatus detached from tive view.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a bedstead, and B a stra having a loop C formed at each end thereof, and to each loop is attached a handle D which the patient grasps. Said strap for adjustment purposes, is provided with buckles of any ordinary make.
E designates a strap which is passed vertically about the top and bottom cross rails of the bedstead in the manner shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, and is fastened to the strap B. The strap E has a buckle also for adjustment. I
In applying the apparatus to a bedstead, the straps are adjusted as shown in the drawings, with the straps B passing about, the foot posts. By'the use of an obstetrical device of the character described, the loops may be held in various horizontal planes, as may be desired, and the strain upon the straps equally distributed upon the bedstead.
What I claim is An obstetrical apparatus comprising a strap having loops at the ends thereof, a stra extending laterally from the center of thelboped strap and at right angles thereto, as shown and for the pur ose set forth.
In testimony whereof hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ANNIE MAY REED.
