Description

No. 812,993. PATENTED FEB. 20, 1906. G. G. HARPER.
CARD MOUNTING.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 5, 1905.
2201272638628.- Imeriior C l. ?I@%;' 7 Ms STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 5. 1905. Serial Io. 239,728.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER O. HAR PER, a citizen of the United States, residin at Audubon, in the county of Audubon an State of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Card-Mounting, of which the following is a specification. The objects of my invention are to provide a card-mountin especially designed for use in displaying p otographs, articles of mer chandise, &c., to be formed com lete'of a face-card and a back-card, the said ack-card so arranged that a portion of it may be inclined away from the face-card to form a sup- '15 porting-standard for the face-card, and, further, to provide said standard with a lockingtongue arranged to be conveniently and easi'ly inserted between a portion of the facecard and the back-card to firmly lock the su orting-standard in position relative to t e ace-card, as required for providing a firm substantial support therefor; and m ob'ect is further to provide a back-card of t 's class so arranged that when in its folded position 2 5 all of its parts will lie perfectly flat against the face-card to occupy a minimum of space in packing and shipping.
My invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the various 0 parts of the card-mounting whereby the ob- 'jects contem lated are attained, as herein-' after more fu y set forth, ointed out in my claim, and illustrated in t e accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the entire .cardmountin in its set-up position as'required for use. ig. 2 shows a rear elevation of same in its folded position; and Fig. 3 shows a vertical central sectional view through the card-mounting in its set-up position.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, I have used the'reference-numeral 10 to indicate the face-card, which may be of any desirable size or shape intended for use in receiving and supporting hoto raphs, articles of merchandise, or the li e. n the rear surface of the face-card I have secured the backcard, which is preferably constructed of card-' board or some similar substance havinga .cer-
tain degree of flexibility. This back-card is provided, as will hereinafter appear, with portions intended to be inclined away from theface-card, and these portions are of course 5 5 not secured to the face-card. The remainder of the card is secured by'gluing or in some I have provided a standard card may be su body portion of the back-card is indicated by the reference-numeral 1 1 along the line 12 and bending it along the line 13, thus formingthe hanger 14. Near the free end of the hanger I forman opening by which the hanger may be placed 'on a nail or other support by cutting the ban er 14 alongthe line 15 and folding it along t e line 13, thus forming the tongue 17. The hanger lies flat against the face-card when in its folded position, and in use its lower end is moved outwardl and upwardly, hinging at the line 13,;unt' 'it projects above the facecard, whereupon it may be supplorted upon a nail or the hke by bendingt e tongue 17 along the line 13 to thus form an opening to receive a nail or other support.
by which the orted on-a horizontal surface, asfollows: cut the back-card alon ,the line 18 and fold it along the line 19 to orm the suplporting-leg 20, and at the bottom of the bac card I out along the line 21 to form a locking-lug 22. The tip or up er end thereof is not secured to the face-car and may innew Feb. 20, 1906.
other desirable way to the face-card. The
Near the top of the back-card I have formed a hanger for use cline rearwardlya slight distance; but this tip portion is not folded. Hence it cannot incline rearwardly to any material extent. In use the leg 20 may have its lower end inclined rearwardly away fromthe face-card to serve as a support to hold the face-card on a horizontal su ace in an inclined position, as shown in Fig. 1. On account of the flexible connection between the supporting-leg 20 and the back-card the said supporting-leg would not of itself hold the face-card as firmly and substantially as is desirable. For-this reason I form in the leg a brace 24, which is made by first cutting through. the supporting-leg on the line 25 and folding it along the line 26,
and at the free end of the brace I form a lock- In ractical use and assuming the le to be.
in its olded osition all of its parts will 'e flat against the ace-card, as shown in Fig. 2. If it is desired to support the facerard on a hori- IIO zontal table or the like, the operator first inclines the lower end of the leg away from the face-.card.- He then bends the brace 24 inwardl and downwardly toward. the facecard and then inserts a forefinger in the 0 ening in the leg and engages with the tip 0 the forefinger .the handle 28, holding it and the locking-tongue flat against the rear of the facecard. He then moves this locking-tongue downwardl until it enters behind the 22, where t e locking-tongue is held by tion between the art 22 and the face-card 10.- In this way t e sugportingleg is firmly apart locked in osition space om the facecard at-t e angle which .is'best adapted for supporting the face-card on a table or the like. In this manner a firm lock for the supporting-leg isprovided and at the same time the face-card 1s not cut in any way and the capable of swinging outwardl awayfrom the face-card, sald leg provide with a brace formed by cutting through the leg, said brace extending from a point near the bottom of the le to a oint near its top, the brace being capab e of olding inwardly on a line near its lower end to positionapproachin a right angle relative to the leg, sald brace ormed with a ton e at its free end and said tongue forme with a handle, the part comprising said tongue and handle rovided with 'a bin e connection'with the race, said backcar also formed with a lockin -lug near its lower end extended upwardly om'the bottom of the back-card at the centralportion thereof, said locking-lug parallel with and free from the face-card to permitthe introduction of the said tongue between it and the face-card and to retain it therein against displacement by pressure tending to move the eg and face-card away from each other, the margins of said front and back cards secured to ether.
n testimony whereof I'hafve signed my name to this specification in the presence of.
two subscribin witnesses. OHR STOPHER Witnesses: HAL. MANTZ, CHAS. S. WHITE.
