BURNER-SUPPORT FOR GAS OR VAPOR STOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 784,433, dated March 7, 1905.
Application filed March 21, 1904. Serial No. 199,160.
To (LIZ 1071/0712 it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CLARENCE V. ROBERTS, a citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain 1m pro vements in Burner-Supports for Gas or Vapor Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to so mount the burner of a gas or vapor stove or range that the same can be'readily applied to or removed from its proper position in the range or stove structure. This object I attain in the manner hereinafter set forth, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a burner of a gas stove or range with sufiicient of the fixed structure to illustrate the manner in which the burner is supported thereon; and Fig. 2 is a transverse section of said fixed structure, showing in side elevation part of the burner-supporting arm.
The burner shown in Fig. 1 is of ordinary construction and comprises a series of hollow arms 1, with perforated tops for the escape of the mixture of air and gas, this hollow arm structure communicating with a tubular neck 2, which has at its outer end an enlarged head 3, with dampered end 4, whereby the supply of air admitted to the burner is regulated, said head also having a central aperture 5 for the reception of the nozzle which supplies the gas to the burner. So far as the construction of the burner is concerned, however, it is immaterial, as my invention is not directed to the burner, but simply to the method of supporting said burner upon the fixed structure of the stove or range. The invention, moreover, is not limited to gasstoves, but is applicable to the support of the burners of gasolene or oil stoves in which the The burner has an upwardly-projectingarm 6, bent or curved at the upper end, so as to form a flat head 7, which when the burner is in place rests upon a horizontal shelf 8, forming part of the flanged rim 9, which constitutes an element of the fixed structure of the stove or range, said flanged rim having a slot 10,
through which projects the upwardly-extending end 11 of the head 7, the top of said upwardly-extending end 11 bearing against a seat 12, formed upon the flanged rim 9, as shown in Fig. 2. The head 7 of the arm 6 has laterally-projecting wings 13, one of which when the burner is properly adjusted is coniined between the forward flange of the rim 9 and a lug 14, projecting upwardly from one corner of the shelf 8. By this means the burner-srmporting arm is securely confined to the flanged rim 9, any tilting or swinging movement of the burner in the direction of the arrow :0, Fig. 2, being prevented by reason of the bearing of the upwardly-extending end 11 of the arm against the seat 12 of the rim, while any movement of the arm in either direction indicated by the double arrow 1/ is prevented by reason of the confinement of one of the wings 13 on the head of the arm between the forward flange of the rim 9 and the lug 14. Release of the burner from the rim 9 can, however, be readily effected by first swinging the burner upwardly in a direction the reverse of that indicated by the arrow il in Fig. 2 until the upturned end 11 of the head of the arm has been sufficiently removed from its hearing against the seat 12 and then .lifting the burner, with its arm, in such direction that the wing 13 will clear the lug 14: and the upturned end 11 on the head of the arm can be withdrawn through the slot 10 in the flanged rim 9. Restoration of the burner to its proper position in the stove can also be readily effected by a reversal of these movements.
Having thus described my invention, lclaim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination of the rim of a gas or vapor stove or range, having a shelf projecting in advance of the rim, and a bearing-surface above the shelf, with a burner having an arm supported upon said shelf, and provided with an end portion for engagement with said bearing on the rim, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of the flanged rim of a gas or vapor stove or range having a bearing thereon, and an arm-supporting member with lug thereon, and a burner having an arm engaging with the bearing on rim, and a projecting wing confined between the flange on the rim and the lug upon the arm-supporting member thereof, substantially as specified.
3. The combination of the slotted rim of a gas or vapor stove or range, having a shelf projecting in advance of the rim, and a bearing-surface above the slot, with a burner having an arm supported upon said shelf, said arm projecting into the slot of the rim and contacting with the bearing above said slot, substantially as specified.
4. The combination of the slotted rim of a gas or vapor stove or range, having a shelf projecting in advance of the rim and a bearing-surface above the slot, with a burner supported upon said shelf and provided with an arm having an upwardly-extending end which enters the slot and engages with the bearing above the same, substantially as specified.
5. The combination of the flanged and slotted rim of a gas or vapor stove having a bearing above the slot, and an arm-supporting member with lug thereon, and a burner having an arm entering the slot of the rim and engaging with the bearing above the same, and a projecting wing confined between the flange on the rim and the lug upon the armsupporting member, substantially as specified.
6. The combination of the slotted frame of a gas or vapor stove or range, with a burner having an arm projecting into said slot, and means for preventing the longitudinal withdrawal of the arm from said slot, substantially as specified.
7. The combination of the slotted frame of a gas vor vapor stove or range, with a burner having an arm projecting into said slot, and means for preventing the longitudinal withdrawal of the arm from said slot, but from which the arm can be freed by-vertical movement, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of 'two subscribing witnesses.
