Description
JOHN H. COLDWELL, OF POUGHKEEPSIE, NEW' YORK.
Deum Patent N0. 76,053, ma March 31, 1,868.
IMPROVBD BABY-JUMPER.
digtlgrhul nftrtet tu .iu tijm Eaters @that mrt making miti tf its tame.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY :OONOERN: I Be it known that I, JOHN H. COLDWELL, of.Poughkeepsie, in the county of'Dutchess, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Baby-Jumper;A and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and usethe same, ref' erence being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved baby-jumper. A
Figure 2 is a plan or toplview, partly in section, ofthe same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. Y Y i This invention relates to a new baby-jumper, in which arms projecting from the straight seat-bar are pivoted t`o arms projecting from the base, the arms on the seat-bar being adjustable, so that'the fulcrum can be brought nearer to or farther from the seat, and so that thereby the apparatus can be adapted for more or less 'heavy children. i
The front end ofthe seat-har is, by means of a spiral spring, connected with the front part ofthe base, the tension of said spring being adjustable by means of a screw, to which one end of the spring is secured. The railing around the seat is provided with a swinging or detachableA gate, so that it can be opened, whenever desired, toY facilitate thevingress or egress of the child. A
A, in the drawing, represents the base of my improved baby-jumper, said base consisting of two or morebars, o1'v of a plateof suitable size and shape. B B- are two or more lugs or ears, projecting from the front part ofthe base, said lugs :being transversely inline with each other. Y O is a stra-ight seat-bar, to the rear end of .which the seat D issccured. To the under side of the sent-bar is secured, by means of a bolt, a, or other.- wise, a slotted plate, E, from whichtwo or mcrerlugs, I1 b, project downward, said lugs being, by means of one or more pins, c, pivotedto the lug's B, as shown. The front end of the bar C is, by means 'cfa spring, F, connected with the front part of the base, A, the upper end of. the spring being fast-cned to Aa sc1ew-bolt, (l, which passes through the bar C, asshown, and by means of which the tension of the spring can be regulated.
By adjusting the `barOon the plate E, the distance from the seat to the plate' E can be lengthened or shortened at will, and thereby the leverage can be adjusted forheavier or lighter children.
Instead ofhaving the plate E slotted, the seatbar O may be slotted, or either of them may be so arranged that the bolt a can be longitudinally adjusted in the same.
The seat D is surrounded with a railing, G, as usual, a portion, H, of which is hinged either to the remain ing stationary part of the railing, or. by means of a post or upright, I, to the seat-bar C, as shown, or is otherwise made so that it can `be swung open or detached. v
In iig. 1.the` railing is shown closed, 'and in'g. 2, opened. When closed, the detachable part H is fastened tc the main part, G, of the railing by suitable locking-devices. l
Having'thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. Making the seatfbar of a baby-jumper longitudinally adjustable on its fulcrum, substantially as hereinshown and described. I i
2. Making a portion, H, of the railing around the scat of o. baby-jumper detachable, or so that it can swing open, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
3. The arrangement and combination with each other of the base, A, ears B, seat-bar C, adjustable plate E, lugs b, spring F, and screw d, all made and operating substantially as herein shown and described,
JOHN H. OOLDWELL.
