UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
.IOINVILLE F. FOIVLER, OF ALLIANCE, ASSIGNOR OF ONE HALF TO HOMER M. SILVER, OF SALEM, OHIO.
STOVE-FOOT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 397,714, dated February 12, 1889.
Application filed June 23, 1888. Serial No. 277,948. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, J OINVILLE F. FOWLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Alliance, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Feet; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to animprovement in stove-legs; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts as hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and. in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure 1 is a side elevation of one of the legs, showing the roller provided on its inner surface with teeth and the thumb-screw for engaging the said teeth to prevent the stove from moving; and Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of a stove, showing the legs attached thereto.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a stove-leg which is provided with two downwardly-exten ding arms, a, in which a roller, B, works. This roller is provided-on its inner face with a number of teeth, I). These teeth may be on both sides of the wheel, if desired; but in this instance they are shown on but one side.
0 design ates a thumbscrew which is screwed into the upper portion of the leg, and is designed to engage the teeth 011 the wheel to prevent the same from turning or allowing the stove to move from its position when the The upper portion of the leg is cast to form an arm, as shown at a. by means of which it may be secured to the bottom of the stove.
It is a well-known fact that all housekeep ers have great difficulty in moving large stoves when it is desired to place a piece of zinc or other material under the stove. This frequently necessitates the taking down of the stove, which not only involves a great deal of trouble but also considerable expense. It will be seen readily that when this device is used all these difficulties are overcome in 3 simple and effective manner, it being only necessary when it is desired to move the stove to loosen the thumb-screw and roll the stove to any point of the room. In order to prevent the stove from shifting its position it is only necessary to screw in the thumb-screw, as be fore described.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with a stove-leg having two downwardly-extending arms, of a roller mounted therein provided with a number of inwardly-extending teeth, and a thumb-screw working in a threaded opening in one of the arms, the inner end of the said screw being designed to engage the teeth on the roller to lock the same in place, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
.TOINVILLE F. FOWLER.
