Abstract

A collaspable frame for supporting a slaughtered animal high enough from a ground so that dogs and other animals can not reach it, the frame being of generally inverted U-shaped configuration when assembled and comprising interfitting metal conduits so to support a top conduit cross piece from which blocks and tackle support a hanger having a hook at each opposite end for putting through the legs of the animal carcass, the entire frame being supported erect above the ground by a nylon rope tied to a stake.

A principal object of the present invention is to provide a game hanger for use by a sportsmen or hunter and which will hold up a slaughtered antelope or deer above a ground so that dogs or wild animals do not have access thereto.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a game hanger which is particularily adaptable for use in wilderness where there are no trees readily available from which a slaughtered animal can be supported.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a game hanger which can be readily and quickly assembled from a number of interfitting components, the individual components being small so that they can be conveniently carried by a sportsmen or hunter while moving through a wilderness in search of game.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a game hanger which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a front elevation view of the game hanger shown assembled;
FIG. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view showing the components of the frame separated from each other;
FIG. 3 is a side elevation view of the game hanger shown in operative use supporting deer high off a ground.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral represents a game hanger according to the present invention and which consists of an assembled frame 11 of generally inverted U-shaped configuration and which is composed of a plurality of interfitting tubular conduits may of light weight metal such as aluminum or the like.
The frame 11 includes a pair of straight legs 12 which converge toward each other at their upper ends and which at their upper ends support a horizontal cross piece 13 therebetween. Each of the legs 12 are comprised of three conduits 14, the ends of which interfit, as shown in FIG. 2 in order to form a unitary structure. The cross piece 13 is likewise made of conduit, the opposite ends thereof being downwardly turned as shown at 15 and being of a lesser diameter in order that they fit into the upper end of the uppermost conduit 14 of each leg.
The cross piece 13 has a double eyelet 16 extending a center thereof, and which includes an upper eyelet 17 and a lower eyelet 18. The lower eyelet is connected to a clevis 19 that supports a pair of blocks 20 and 21 having a double tackle 22 therebetween in order to support a hanger 23 thereform. Each opposite end of the hanger 23 has a hook 24 formed therein and which are used for insertion through the legs 25 of an animal 26 that is to be supported from the frame. A cleat 27 is securable to a side of .one of the leg conduits 14 and serves for the end of the rope 28 forming the double tackle to be anchored thereupon.
In operative use, as shown in FIG. 3, a nylon 28 of approximately 15 feet length is attached to one end of the eyelet 17, the opposite end of the nylon rope being secured to a stake 29 that is driven into a ground 30. Thus the frame is maintained in an erected position so that the antelope or deer can be suspended therefrom.
A practical size for the game hanger comprises the frame being nine feet in height so that the slaughtered game is about four feet off of the ground. The hooks 24 of hanger 23 are approximately 18 inches apart. The conduits 14 are each about three feet in length and the cross piece conduit 13 is approximately 24 inches long.
Thus there is provided a game hanger that serves a useful purpose for hunters and sportsmen, and which alternately can be used even upon a fram, or a back yard of a city home.
What I now claim is:
1. A collapsible portable game hanger apparatus the several members of which are readily separable and adapted for easy portage as a knockdown assembly, comprising i a pair of upright legs each constituting a plurality of separable elongate telescopically interconnected leg members and adapted to have the bottom ends thereof in contact with the ground when in use,
a single transverse elongate leg member the respective ends of which are telescopically interconnected with the top ends of said upright legs to connect said legs together and form an inverted U- shaped knockdown frame,
a dual eyelet member mounted on said transverse leg member substantially at the midpoint thereof and providing a lower eyelet depending from said transverse leg member and an upper eyelet extending above said transverse leg member, said eyelets lying in a common substantially vertical plane,
a flexible elongate line member connected at one end to said upper eyelet and secured at the other end to the ground at a point spaced from said bottom ends of said upright legs,
a block-and-tackle apparatus suspended from said lower eyelet,
a hook member suitable for engaging and holding game carcasses and suspended from the lower block of said block-and'tackle apparatus, and
a cleat member mounted on one of said upright legs for securing the end of the line forming the tackle of said block-andtackle apparatus,
whereby such inverted U-shaped frame is supported in a position at an angle to the vertical by means of said flexible line member, and game carcasses held by said hook member'may be raised to and held at a suitable height by means of said block-and-tackle apparatus.
