PATENTEWAH 2 I973 MARKIEL' HENRY WiJMLL 1 COMBINATION WIIEEL CHAIR AND WALKER OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the invention to provide an improved walker.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved walker and wheel chair.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a walker having a single wheel with U-shaped arms extending rearwardly and downwardly from the wheel for attachment to the wheel chair.
Another object is to provide a chair that is simple in construction and adaptable to be attached to most makes of wheel chairs.
Another object is to provide a single pilot wheel walker having free mobility in congested areas.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING The drawing shows an isometric view of a wheel chair and walker combination according to the invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING The drawing shows a combination wheel chair and walker. The wheel chair may be a conventional type of wheel chair having a tubular frame with tubular front legs 11 and 12. The frame has a conventional seat 29 and backrest 30. lt has rear wheels 14 supported on the axle 13. A brake 17 is provided for parking the wheel chair. The front wheels 15 and 16 are fixed to the legs 11 and 12. The walker has the front vertical leg 23 with the front wheel 24 fixed to its bottom end. The leg 23 is fixed at its upper end to an intermediate part of a tubular yoke member having spaced legs 18 and 19 extending upwardly then forwardly and converging into an apex of the yoke member which is attached to the upper end of the front leg 23". Braces 21 and 22 are fixed to the leg 23 at an intermediate part and extend upwardly and rearwardly and are attached to the arms of the U-shaped member as shown. The armrests 27 'and 28 are supported on pedestals 30 and 31. The
A user may sit on the seat 29 and lean back against the backrest 30. When he wishes to walk, he may rise to his feet and stand up between the legs 18 and 19 of the walker. The user may adjust the armrests 27 and 28 to accommodate his height so that the armrests are received under his arms. He may then walk. The walker and wheel chair are stabilized by the wheel 24.
The foregoing specification sets forth the invention in its preferred practical forms but the structure shown is capable of modification within a range of equivalents without departing from the invention which is to be understood is broadly novel as is commensurate with the appended claims.
lclaim:
l. A walker adapted to be attached to the front of a wheel chair frame,
said walker comprising a single tubular yoke member,
said yoke member having spaced legs extending upwardly then forwardly and converging into an apex of said oke member a vertical y extending front leg having a wheel at its lower end, means at the upper end of said front leg fixed to said apex of said yokemember,
and means for attaching said spaced legs to said wheel chair frame.
Claims (1)
1. A walker adapted to be attached to the front of a wheel chair frame, SAID WALKER COMPRISING A SINGLE TUBULAR YOKE MEMBER, SAID YOKE MEMBER HAVING SPACED LEGS EXTENDING UPWARDLY THEN FORWARDLY AND CONVERGING INTO AN APEX OF SAID YOKE MEMBER, A VERTICALLY EXTENDING FRONT LEG HAVING A WHEEL AT ITS LOWER END, MEANS AT THE UPPER END OF SAID FRONT LEG FIXED TO SAID APEX OF SAID YOKE MEMBER, AND MEANS FOR ATTACHING SAID SPACED LEGS TO SAID WHEEL CHAIR FRAME.
