VEHICLE-SPRiNG.
CPECIFECATIOEJ forming part of Letters Patent. No. 321,663, dated July '7, 1885.
(X0 model.)
To all whomit may concern.-
Be it known that I, Earn. 0. TEOKTOXIUS, of Racine, in the county of Racine, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VehicleSprings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
Myinvention relates to vehicle springs, and will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure l is an end view of the floor of a wagon with my in rention in position, and Fig. 2 is a perspectire view of my device inverted.
A is the door of the vehicle. B are the springs, one of which is secured to the floor near each edge, and then extends back beyond the opposite edge of the floor, to be clipped to a sidebar. (1 is a bracket, that is secured to the under side of the floor A at or near its center. This bracket has depending from it three legs, (L a u, and between the lug a and each lug a is pivoted a leaf, Z), on a bolt, Z). These leaves point in opposite directions, and to each one of them is clipped a spring, B, so that the weight of the body will be transmitted to the springs through these leaves at the points where the springs cross each other, the result being that the weight will cause the springs to yield without thrusting on the sidebars.
I may use either heavy or light springs with my invention, and they may consist of but one leaf or any number, my object being simply to get a pivotal. connection between the springs at their crossing-points and the center of the bottom of the body.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I. claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, with a vehicle-body, of crossed elliptical springs, one end of each spring being secured to the under side of the body ncarits edge, and then extending beyond the opposite edge, the two springs crossing each other under the center of the body and being there clipped to the pivoted leaves of a depending bracket, substantially as described.
2-. The combination, with a vehicle body, of the crossed elliptical springs B B and the depending bracket 0, with lugs (L a a, and the leaves Z) I), pivoted on bolt 6, passing through said lugs, and the said leaves extending in opposite directions, and each clipped to one of the springs 13 on opposite sides of the center of the bracket, as shown and described.
in testimony that I claim the foregoing l have hereunto set my hand, at Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
EMIL (l. TECKTONIUS.
