Description

l0. G. MUSSER. Bedstead-Fastening.
40.224,714. Patented Feb.17,188o.
"JEFES, PHDTO-LITHOGRAFMEP, WASHINGTON. D4 CA be used.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEFICE.
OSCAR Gr. MUSSER, OF FLEMING, PENNSYLVANIA.
* BEDSTEADQFASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 224,714, dated February 17, 1880.
` Application liled November 29, 1879.
To all whomrtt may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR G. MUssER, of Fleming, in the county of Centre and State of' Pennsylvania., have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin BedsteacLFastenings; and I do hereby declare that the following' is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a plan View of my improved bedstead, `showing-how either cords or slats may Fig. 2 is a cross-section through one of the side rails, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section ot' one end of the same.
The object of my invention is to provide a fastening for the side rails of a bedstead which shall be simple and inexpensive, and yet strong andnot liable to get out ot' order; and it consists in the combination, with the side bars and posts of a bedstead, of certain devices which will be hereinafter described, and more fully set forth in the claim.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the saine, I will now proceed to describe its construction.
`for using slats, cords,
In the accompanying drawings, A A representthe head and foot ot' a bedstead, and B B the side rails, which may all be of any convenient or suitable form, and maybe prepared or any desired device for supporting the bed. Across the ends of the side rails, B B, are secured metal plates C C,
" which extend a short distance above and below the side rails, and are provided with two projecting anges, c c, which clasp the upper and under surfaces of the rail and aid in holding the plate firmly in place. To the bed-post I also secure a metal plate, D, provided at its center with a pin or stud, d, and near each end with a headed pin, e. Through the center of the plate C is" a hole, a, corresponding in size and depth with the stud d, and the outer ends of the plate are provided with curved slots b b, concentric with the stud d, and opening on opposite edges ot' the plate.
To put this bedstead together, I turn the rail B upon its side and insert the stud l in the hole a, and then, by twisting the rail back to its proper position, the headed pins c c enter the slots b b and hold the frame securely together. p
When slats are used 'they are so placed that their ends rest below the center of the rail, and by this means the rail is prevented from being accidentally turned and the frame coming apart.
When cords are used they are passed around pins upon the upper edge of the rails, and bind the whole together for the same purpose.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a bedstead-fastening, the combination, with side rails, B B, and posts A, of' the plates G C, having flanges c c, the openings a, and
concentric curved slots b, opening upon opposite edges of the plates, and the plates D D, secured to the post and having studs d al and headed pins e e, all constructed and arranged to operate substantiallyas and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
l O. G. MUSSER.
