FOLDING BATHTUB AND DRESSING TABLE Filed Nov. 7, 1929 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 [I Svwentoz Q 4 7 551 a t tom Patented Apr. 21, 1931 PATENT orrlca GEORGES. HANSIBUM, 01 NEW YORK, N. Y.
FOLDING BA'IKTUB AND DC TABLE Application filed November 7, 1929. Serial No. 405,811.
This invention relates to a bathtub of the folding type which is provided also wlth means to serve as an infants dressing table. and whereby the child is lifted out of the 6 bath without being touched by hand A further object includes the provision of a supporting frame provided with an ad ustable perforated cover supported above a suitable bathtub to serve as a dresslng table and as means for lowering the child into the bath at different levels.
I further provide protective means to guard the child from rolling off and with means for covering the perforated table cover.
Other objects will appear hereinafter and I obtain these objects by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a construction which embodies my invention;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2 with the dressing table cover lowered in the bath;
Fig. 4 is a side elevational view showing the device in folded position;
Fig. 5 is an end view of one end thereof;
Fig. 6 is an enlarged detail of the rear support and table; and
Fig. 7 is a similar view of the front portion thereof.
Like numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views wherever they appear.
It is one of the prime purposes of my invention to provide a simple and desirable bath and dressing table which is foldable and suitable for use in connection with childrens bath. One form of construction comprises a frame consisting of end pieces 10, 10 and side pieces 11, 11 properly united into a rectangular frame. On the rear portion of the side piece 11 there is fastened a support or cover 13 of suificient dimensions to substantially cover the rectangular frame in the manner shown in Fig. 2. It will be observed that the meshed cover is fastened at the front portion thereof to an adjustable frame 14 which 50 is pivotally hinged at 17 to the rectangular frame. Near the front rtion thereof there is provided a handle 16 or opening and closing the device. The device is held in open position by a toggle joint 15, as is illustrated 1n Fig. 1. In the position shown in Fig. 1 the meshed cover is in taut position and in this position forms a suitable dressing table. Inasmuch as the meshed material, which usually is textile material, is liable to retain much water it may be desirable to cover the same at certain times and this ma be accomplished by providing a rubber blan et 18, or the like, which is likewise fastened to the rear part of the frame bar 11 and is kept in position by buttons 11' and side straps 13'. When in use 05 this cover is in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2. When not in use it may be folded back over the guard 19, as shown in F g. 3, which guard is provided to shield the child.
The construction just described may be supported in any suitable manner and preferably in such a position as to be foldably held on or over a convenient bathtub. A preferred 'form of construction showing such a support is illustrated by the drawings and consists in end bars 20, 20' which are supported on foldable stands 21. These stands are held in open position by toggle joints 22, and with the end bars constitute a support for the flexible bathtub 23 and the dress ing table described above. The bathtub may be provided with a drain or water outlet 24. Suitable hooks 25 are provided on the support to slidably hold the frame on the end rods 26 for folding the bathing apparatus. I provide also an apron 27 having pockets 28 to hold soap and other articles.
From the description thus far given it will be apparent that the construction affords convenient means for an infants bath and dressing table combined which when not in use may be quickly folded, as is shown in Fig.
4. It is obvious to those versed in the art that various details of construction may be added or suggested which, however, fall whol- 13y within t e spirit and object of my invenion.
What I claim, therefore as new and useful and desire to secure by letters Patent is:
1. In a bathing apparatus, the combinawe tion of a foldable stand having connecting bars, a bathtub supported on said, bars, a frame support for said bathtub, means on said frame for immersing to different depths and a toggle for holding said means stretched to form a dressing table.
2. In a bathing apparatus, the combination of a stand comprising end members and connecting bars, a bathtub supported on said bars, a rectangular frame supported above said bathtub, means on said frame arranged to be partially lowered in said bathtub, a tog 1e for holding said means stretched above the athtub, and a cover for said means.
3. In a bathing apparatus, the combination of a stand and a bathtub supported thereon, a frame slidabl supported over said bathtub, an open mesh support on said frame, means to hold said support in taut position on the frame, a cover for said support, and means to fasten said cover over the support.
4. In a bathing apparatus, the combination of a bathtub and a dressin table supported thereon, said dressing ta 1e comprising a frame, a loose mesh fabric fastened on one side of said frame, and slidably extending over the opposite side thereof, and means for holding the fabric for a dressing table on the frame.
5. In a bathing apparatus, the combination of a bathtub and a dressin table supported thereon, said dressin ta 1e comprlsing a frame, a loose mesh fabric fastened on one side of said frame and slidabl; extending over the o posite sidethereof, means for holding the fa ric stretched over the tub for a dressing table or lowered into the tub for bathing.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand on this 28th day of October A. D,
1929. GEORGE B. HANSBURG.
