B. P. TEXTORIUS.
CHAIR.
FILED Nov-7,1921.
VENTOR 'WITN ss: ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 1 9, 1922.
UNITED STATES BENG'I' P. TEXTORIUS, 0F LEAMINGTON, UTAH.
CHAIR.
Applicationfiled November, 7 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENo'r P. TEXTORIUS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leamington, in the county of Millard and State of Utah, have invented new and useful Improvements in Chairs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to high chairs, and comprehends a construction whereby the height of the chair can be varied as the occasion requires.
More specifically stated, the chair is made in two sections which are telescopically fitted, and associated by means of an adjusting screw, by means of which the height of the chair can bequickly and easily varied.
Another object of the invention resides in providing a chair of this character with a foot rest detachablyassociated with the legs of the. chair and designed to be quickly and easily attached thereto in its proper position with relation to the seat.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the chair constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detail view of the lower section of the chair.
Figure 4 is a detail view of the foot rest.
Figure 5 is a detail sectional view showing the securing means of the pin in the foot rest.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the chair forming the subject. matter of the invention is made up of two sections indicated at A and B respectively. The section A constitutes the. supporting structure. and includes legs 10 which are connected together by the transverse members 11. The legs are also connected by bracing elements 12 which project from a bearing 13' in which the tubu lar member 1% is swiveled. This member 14 is interior-1y threaded as at 15 for a purpose Serial N 0. 513,410.
to be presently described. The upper part of the chair B includes the seat 16, back 17, and arm rest 18. Depending from the seat portion 16 are legs 19 which are telescopically fitted in the legs 10 of the section A. Depending from the seat 16 is an adjusting screw which is operatively associated with the tubular member 14, so that the height of the chair may be varied as the occasion requires by rotating the tubular member 14. A yoke 21 is pivoted uppn the back of the chair and supports atray 22 which can be arranged at the back of the chair in an out of the way position or in advance of the back when positioned for use.
A foot rest 21 is also provided, and projecting from the foot rest are pins 25 adapted to be. received in openings 26 formed in the correspinding front legs of the section A. By reason of this construction, the foot rest can be adjusted into proper relation wit-h the seat: The invention is simplein construction, and can be manufactured and sold at a very nominal cost.
\Vhile it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to, when desired, as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
An adjustable chair comprising an upper and lower section, said lower section constituting the supporting structure which provides hollow legs connected together by transverse numbers. converging bracing elements connected at one end to the hollow legs, a bearing having the opposite ends of said bracing elements connected thereto and arranged above the plane of the connecting point of the bracing elements with the 1101- low legs, a tubular member being interiorly threaded and designed at its upper end to'be swiveled in saidbearing, said upper section providing legs to be telescopically fitted in the hollow legs, an adjusting screw depending from the upper section intermediate of the legs thereof and being adapted to be op= eratively associated with the threads of the tubular member for the purpose specified.
In testimonv whereof I afiix my signature.
BENGT I. TEX'IORIUS.
