ROLLING CRUTCH.
APPLICATION FILED JAN-10, 1921.

IN VE N TOR .W/ TNESSES A TTORNEYS UNITED STATES MILTON..DARNELL SCOTT, 0F KEWANEE, ILLINOIS.
ROLLING CRUTCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. is, 1921.
Application filed January 10, 1921. Serial No. 436,220.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, M'TLTON DARNELL Soorr, a citizen of the United States. and a resident of Kewanec, in the county of Henry and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rolling Crutches, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates generally to rolling crutches, or what are known as walking chairs having in connection therewith a seat whereby the user may propel himself along a supporting surface and readlly and easily rest upon the seat between walking periods.
The primary object of my invention is the provision of an arrangement 1n connection with which the seat is readily shiftable and horizontally adjustable and in which the arm rests maybe conveniently and comfortably adjusted to the body of the user.
In the accompanying drawing which illustrates my present invention and forms a part of this specification,
The figure is a perspective view of my improved apparatus.
eferring now to this figure my improved device consists of uprights disposed at the four corners of the frame forming the crutch and in upper and lower sections 10 and 11, the lower sections of which telescope into the upper sections and have at their lower ends revolvingcasters 12 in which the wheels 13 or rollers are mounted. The lower portions of the uprights are braced by a lower horizontal frame 14 of rectangular form which is connected to the lower sections 11, the latter being adjustable by virtue of the telescoping relation so as to increase or decrease the height of the frame, and being adjustably connected to the upper sections 10 at 15. The upper sections 10 are provided with upper inwardly offset extensions 16, and have vertical series of apertures 17 below these upper extensions for the adjustable reception of the end fastening members 18 of horizontal side bars 19, the latter of which are. straight from end to end and adapted to receive the end hooks 20 of a transversely disposed seat bar 21 which I may be upholstered in any desired manner and which is thus slidable between the forward. and rear uprights and in addition serves as a brace between the upper portions of the two side uprights.
In addition to forming the support for the seat bar, the side bars 19 also form. hand bars, the shoulder rests 22, extending between the upper ends of the uprights at each side having at their opposite ends depending bars 23 attached by laterally yieldable joints 24 to the inwardly ofi'set extensions 16 of the uprights, thus providing for swinging movement of the arm Tests 22 toward and away from and proper fitting relation to the body of the user. These joints 24 include clamping members25 whereby a proper adjustment once made, can be readily maintained.
Thus from the foregoing it becomes ob vious that the device as a whole may be readily adjusted, conveniently manipulated and the parts shifted to provide for maximum comfort of the user, and that in addition to these .features my invention provides an apparatus which is simple in its nature and will be strong and durable in use.
I claim:
1. A rolling crutch comprising a frame including corner uprights having inwardly offset upper extensions, arm rests connected to the upper ends of said extensions in laterally adjustable relation, side hand rails adjustably connected to and extending between the uprights below their said extensions, and a seat bar adjustably engaged at opposite ends with the said hand rails and movable along the full length of the latter, said extensions of said uprights projecting freely above the hand rails whereby to leave unobstructed arm spaces below the arm rests.
2. A rolling crutch adapted to be propelled in either direction comprising a frame, parallel laterally yielding arm rests at the upper portions of the frame and extendin' from the front to the rear thereof, spaced parallel hand rails also extending from the front to the rear of the frame along its opposite sides, and a seat bar disposed transversely in the frame and having end hooks detachably engaging the hand rails and 'slidable thereon for the full length thereof, said seat bar acting to brace the frame adjacent to the hand rails whereb to eliminate the necessity of frame connections above the said hand rails.
