Abstract

A bedding underlayer for the bed of an incontinent patient comprises an impervious base layer 2, 3 substantially wider than the bed so that opposite lateral portions 2 of the base layer can be tucked under the mattress of the bed, and a liquid-absorbing layer 4 in the middle of the base layer and of the same width as the bed, or of lesser width. The liquid- absorbing layer 4 is surrounded, at its edges, by a surround or frame 6 of impermeable sheet material which is sealed to the base layer and which extends partially over the liquid absorbing layer to form a liquid barrier which prevents liquid which has soaked into the absorbent layer from seeping in the bed. <IMAGE>
