Abstract

640,791. Invalids' beds. WHITFIELDS BEDSTEADS, Ltd., and WHITFIELD, C. G. Aug. 25, 1948, No. 22443. [Class 52 (ii)] An invalids' bed comprises a rectangular main frame 4 pivoted at 24 to side supports 5 and an independent bed surface consisting of a head frame 8 pivoted to the main frame 4 at 9, a centre frame 10 pivoted at 10a to the main frame and a foot frame 11 pivoted to the centre frame 11. The head frame 8 is adjustable from a traversing screw 19 through links 16 and lever mechanism 17, 18 while the centre and foot frames 10, 11 are adjustable by links 22 from another traversing screw 23 to form an adjustable knee support. The main frame 4 is tiltable on the supports 5 by means of a traversing screw 25 and links 27. The end of the frame 11 is guided by means of rollers 12 on guides 13. A spring surface 7 is connected to the foot of the main frame, passes under the frames 10, 11 and is connected to the top of the head frame while a supplementary spring surface is formed on frames 10, 11. A handle 29 is pivoted to the main frame 4 at 9 and may serve, when raised, as a patient's hand lift by means of loops 30 or the like. The side frames 5 are mounted on on-and-off castors in known manner.
