Abstract

614,610. Infant carriers. JOHNSON, E. G. July 19, 1946, No. 21605. Convention date, Aug. 21, 1945. [Class 141] An infant carrying device adapted to be suspended from the shoulder of the wearer by a sling, comprises a seat, side portions and an adjustable back. As shown in Fig. 1, the sides are provided with rear extensions E, E<1>, connected by a buckle behind the back B, permitting angular adjustment of the latter. The sling H is fastened to adjustment buckles attached to tabs G, G<1> along the sides D, D<1>, and a pad J, displaceable laterally, is attached to the underside of the sling to increase its bearing surface. A safety strap K may be threaded through a loop L on the back or seat and/or a band N engagable with a buckle O may be provided to form a front guard for the child. A forward extension C of the seat, which is normally folded back, may be extended to enable the device to be used as a cradle. In this case, the back B is adjusted to a reclining position and the sling H wound round the child's body, suspension cords being threaded through eyelets P. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, the extension C is omitted and the front guard consists of a web Q attached to the sides D, D<1> of the device and a strap R which extends between the legs of the child.
