Abstract
372,260. Motor cycle foot-rests. CESCHKA, J., 15, Essterhazygasse, Vienna. Feb. 22, 1932, No. 5252. Convention date, Feb. 28, 1931. [Class 136 (iii).] Foot-rests for motor cycles are mounted on joints in such a way as to yield upwardly and rearwardly when struck, so that damage is avoided. In the construction shown in elevation in Fig. 1 and plan in Fig. 2, the pin 3 of the foot-rest 1 is provided with a ball 2 engaging a socket formed of parts 4, 5 having reduced parts 6 fixed in a hollow block 7 by means of a bolt 8, the block 7 being mounted on the cycle frame by means of a screw-threaded pin 10, The socket 4, 5 is cut away at 11 to permit the foot-rest to yield upwardly and rearwardly, a flange 5a preventing downward and forward movement. In a modification, the ball joint is replaced by two pivot joints arranged at right-angles to one another, parts of the joint lugs being rounded to permit the required movements.
