Abstract
A pushchair, pram or wheelchair safety clamp comprises attachment means 1, for attaching the clamp between the wheels. Scissor arms 2, 6, apply and detach clamping blocks 4, 8, at the inner face of the wheels, while coil springs 5, 7, allow retraction of the scissor arms 2, 6 with the assistance of a sleeved wire. The wheels remain clamped until released by a user with the sleeved wire.
Description
Pushchair, Pram, Wheelchair Safety Clamp.
This invention relates to a device for clamping wheels of a pushchair, pram, wheelchair in a stationary position, unless deliberate application is implemented by a responsible persons, to be otherwise.
In a busy environment, surroundings can divert our attention, children being the number one distraction. Making this especially hard when in control of a pushchair, pram or wheelchair general roll and stationary position. The wheel clamp normally playing a deliberate role over the above wheel units.
However the use of conventional wheel clamps can be, possibly fraught with some difficulties.
Wheel clamps might only be implemented in a stationary position, the other problem being that manual application is the other normal way of operation, under rolling state. Under these circumstances an absent manual attention, could allow a pushchair, pram, wheelchair to roll where a gradient be present, or where a non responsible persons can take over control, young children being
an example.
To overcome these problems the present invention proposes a pushchair, pram, wheelchair safety clamp. With attachment means for attaching the safety clamp unit by means of a retainer plate, found fixed between the rolling wheels making up part of the clamps structure. Secured to the retainer plate by means of a screw through their centre, two scissor arms sit centre of the plate. To the outer ends of the arms, nearest the wheels internal area, two prefixed clamping blocks. These are prefixed by built in threads to the back of the blocks, threads pass through pre-drilled holes in the arms, then are retained by a nut. The scissor arms furtherest away from the wheels are found to the top internal area of the scissor arms, centre of the retainer plate are two coil springs prefixed into the retainer plate to expand and retract the arms by way of a sleeved wire, which in tam passes through the top outer faces of the scissor arms, as well as the coil springs internal area. The sleeved wire is prefixed on the outer face of one scissor arm, the sleeved end sits on the opposite scissor arms' face. The opposite end of where the wire protrudes, finishes the expansion and retraction of the scissor arms by way of pulling the wire. The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows a pushchair, pram, wheelchair safety clamp filled between one side of a pair of rear wheels in the immediate example being a pushchairs' rear wheels.
Figure one shows a pushchair, pram, wheelchair safety clamp fined in this example to a pushchair? rear wheels frame. In figure 1, a retainer plate 1, fined through their centre by a screw 3, are scissor arms 2, 6 to retainer plate 1. To the external ends of 2, 6, closest to the wheels, clamping blocks 4, 8, are fined, secured by a thread passing through pre-drilled holes in scissor arms 2, 6, then being finally secured by nut on thread to back of scissor arms 2, 6. To the upper internal end of scissor arms 2, 6, and upper centre of retainer plate 1, sitting secured between is coil springs 5, 7, allowing expansion of scissor arms 2, 6, to implicate clamping action between wheels by way of clamp block 4, 8. Fitted through upper external end of scissor arm 6, through centre of coil spring 5, through retainer plate 1, then through coil spring 7, finally through external end of scissor arm 2, where it is secured, can be found a wire. The opposite external end of scissor arm 6, is then sleeved over the wire, hence when other end of sleeve furthest away from scissor arm 6, containing other end of wire is pulled, both upper scissor arms 6, 2 and coil spring 5, 7 are compressed. This in its action will disengage the clamping blocks 4, 8 then allowing wheels to roll freely.
Claims (6)
- Claims 1. A pushchair, pram, wheelchair safety clamp. With attachment means for attaching the safety clamp unit, by means of a retainer plate, found fixed between the rolling wheels, making up part of the clamps structure.
- 2. Secured to claim 1, the retainer plate, by means of a screw through the centre. Two scissor arms centre of the plate.
- 3. To Claim 2, outer ends of arms' nearest the wheels' internal area, two prefixed clamping blocks. These are prefixed by built in threads to back of blocks, threads pass through pre-drilled hole in arms, then are retained by a nut.
- 4. Claim 2 the scissor arms, furtherest away from claim 3, to internal faces of claim 2, and seated in claim 1 the retainer plate, two coiled springs are found upper centre of retainer plate. These allowing engagement by expansion of springs forcing claim 2 scissor arms furtherest away from claim 3 clamping blocks to expand outwards. This in turn is fed through claim 2 the scissor arms centre like a pair of scissors in open position, forcing claim 3 the clamping blocks to engage clamping of wheels at the end of claim 2 scissor arms outer.
- 5. Passing through claim 2 scissor arms, and coil springs claim 4, a wire one end prefixed on claim 4 scissor arm outer face the other end sleeved on claim 4 opposite scissor arms outer face.
- 6. Sleeve wire claim 5 is pulled at unattached end of claim 4 scissor arms, causing claim 2 scissor arms to pull inwards compressing claim 4 coil springs. This in turn is fed through claim 2 scissor arms centre then causing retraction of claim 3 clamping blocks from internal wheels the opposite action of claim 4.
