Abstract

The arrangement comprises, a seat (4) attached to the front legs (2), a handle (5) pivotally attached (10) to the rear legs (3), a backrest (8) supported by a frame member (9) and two adjustment mechanisms (11-17). The mechanisms include, a rail (11) having recesses (11A-11C) attached to the frame member (9), a slider (13) incorporating a lever (14) with a projection (14A) and a link (17) pivotally connected at one end to the slider (13) and the handle (5) at the other. The lever (14) is biassed by a spring (15) to ensure the projection (14A) cooperates with one of the recesses (11A-11C). Adjustment of the inclination of the backrest is achieved by pressing the lever (14) to disengage the projection (14A) which allows the slider to move along the frame member (9) raising or lowering the top edge of the backrest (8).

Description

2351712 BABY CARRIAGE
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates, in general, to baby carriages and, more particularly, to a baby carriage the backrest of which is capable of being adjusted easily at its inclination angle by simple manipulation.
Description of the Prior Art
As well known to those skilled in the art, there are known a variety of baby carriages the backrest of which is capable of being adjusted easily at its inclination angle.
However, since the construction of the inclination angle adjusting mechanism of such a baby carriage is complicated, the adjustment of inclination angle cannot be performed easily and rapidly, its breakdown may occur easily and, consequently, its life span is short and its manufacturing cost is expensive.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Accordingly, the present invention has been made keeping 25 in mind the above problems occurring in the prior art, and an
I object of the present invention is to provide a baby carriage, the inclination angle adjusting mechanism of which has a simple construction which is capable of allowing the adjustment of inclination angle to be performed easily and rapidly by simple manipulation, preventing the mechanism from easily breaking down and, consequently, lengthening its life span, and reducing its manufacturing cost.
In order to accomplish the above object, the present invention provides a baby carriage, comprising two front legs and two rear legs having respectively wheels, a seat fixedly positioned among the upper portions of the front and rear legs, a folding handle frame rotatably connected at its lower ends to the upper ends of the rear legs, two holder pieces fixed to the lower portions of the side portions of the folding handle frame, a backrest retaining frame rotatably fixed at its front ends to the holder pieces, and a backrest retained by the backrest retaining frame, characterized in that, two stopper rails respectively having a plurality of stopper recesses are fixed to the bottom surfaces of side portions of the backrest retaining frame, two sliders that respectively have levers respectively provided with upward stopper projections are respectively and slidably positioned around the side portions of the backrest retaining frame and the stopper rails with each of the levers being rotatably inserted into and fixed to the lower portion of each of the 2 sliders while being elastically pressed by a spring, and two links are respectively and rotatably fixed at their ends to the sliders and the side portions of the folding handle frame above the holder pieces.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The above and other objects, features and other advantages of the present invention will be more clearly understood from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing a baby carriage in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a detailed perspective view of the principal portions of the baby carriage; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing the operation of the important construction of the baby carriage.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
Reference now should be made to the drawings, in which the same reference numerals are used throughout the different drawings to designate the same or similar components.
1.2. 13 As illustrated in Figs. i-Oand 1-21, a baby carriage 1 comprises two front legs 2 and two rear legs 3 respectively 3 having wheels (reference number not assigned to). A seat 4 is fixedly positioned among the upper portions of the front and rear legs 2 and 3. A folding handle frame 5 is rotatably connected at its lower ends to the upper ends of the rear legs 3. Two holder pieces 6 are fixed to the lower portions of the folding handle frame 5 by means of pins 7. A backrest retaining frame 9 is rotatably fixed at its front ends to the holder pieces 6 by means of pins 10. A backrest 8 is retained by the backrest retaining frame -L The above constructions are the same as those of the conventional baby carriage.
The characteristics of the present invention are as follows. Two stopper rails 11 respectively having a plurality of stopper recesses 11A, 11B and 11C are fixed to the bottom surfaces of the side portions of the backrest retaining frame 9 by means of screws 12. Two sliders 13 that respectively have levers 14 respectively provided with upward stopper projections 14A are respectively and slidably positioned around the side portions of the backrest retaining frame 9 and the stopper rails 11 through a hole 13A with each of the levers 14 being rotatably inserted into and fixed by means of a pin 16 to the lower portion of each of the sliders 13 while being elastically pressed by a spring 15. Two links 17 are respectively and rotatably fixed at their ends to the sliders 13 and the side portions of the folding handle frame 5 above the holder pieces 6 by means of pins 18.
4 The operation of the baby carriage of the present invention is as follows.
It is similar to the corresponding operation of the conventional baby carriage in that the inclination angle of the backrest 8 of the baby carriage 1 is adjusted by means of rotating the backrest retaining frame 9, to which the backrest 8 is retained, around the pin 10 while the front and rear legs 2 and 3, the seat 4 and the folding handle frame 5 are spread out.
When a user desires to adjust the inclination angle of the backrest 8, the levers 14 must be pressed rearward. if the levers 14 are pressed rearward, the levers 14 are rotated around the pin 16 clockwise while overcoming the force of the springs 15 and,- simultaneously, the stopper projections 14A of the levers 14 are respectively removed from the stopper recess 11A, 11B or 11C of the stopper rails 11.
Thereafter, the sliders 13 must be pushed away from the user or pulled close to the user depending upon a desired inclination angle. That is, in order to obtain a small inclination angle the sliders 13 must be pushed away from the user, while in order to obtain a large inclination angle the sliders 13 must be pulled close to the user.
Subsequently, when the sliders 13 are pushed or pulled to the extent that the desired inclination angle can be obtained, the levers 14 are allowed to be rotated around the pin 16 counterclockwise by the force of the springs 15 and, simultaneously, the stopper projections 14A of the levers 14 are respectively engaged with the stopper recesses 11A, 11B or 11C of the stopper rails 11. At this time, the engagement of the stopper projections 14A and the stopper recesses 11A, 11B or 11C helps the inclined state to be firmly maintained.
In such a case, as the sliders 13 are pushed away from the user or pulled close to the user, the links 17 that are respectively and rotatably fixed at their ends to the sliders 13 and the side portions of the folding handle frame 5 are pushed away from the folding handle frame 5 or pulled close to the folding handle frame 5 while being rotated around the pins 18. At the same time, the backrest retaining frame 9 and the slider 13 are pushed away from the folding handle frame 5 or pulled close to the folding handle frame 5 while the backrest retaining frame 9 is rotated around the pins 10 clockwise or counterclockwise.
Finally, the inclination angle of the backrest 8 is adjusted by such a push or pull of the backrest retaining f rame 9.
As described above, the present invention provides a baby carriage, the inclination angle adjusting mechanism of which has a simple construction which is capable of allowing the adjustment of inclination angle to be performed easily and rapidly by simple manipulation, preventing the mechanism 6 from easily breaking down and, consequently, lengthening its life span, and reducing its manufacturing cost.
Although the preferred embodiments of the present invention have been disclosed for illustrative purposes, those skilled in the art will appreciate that various modifications, additions and substitutions are possible, without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention as disclosed in the accompanying claims.
