10,012. Skeffington, A. April 27. Bed-lifts.-A bed-lift comprises a lifting and winding roller arranged on the inner side of the end frame at the head of the bed, and a draw-sheet. A second roller at the foot of the bed may be used, and provision is made for tilting the rollers on a pivot. In addition, the rollers may be made larger in diameter at the centre than at the ends to counteract the sagging of the sheet. Rods B, C, clamped to the uprights A, carry brackets E, E<1> having bearings for the journals of the lifting and winding roller F, to which is attached a sheet G, the roller being actuated through a handle and worm gearing. With this apparatus a patient may be raised to the head of the bed, or when necessary can be brought into a sitting position. A second roller H may be attached to the foot of the bed and the draw-sheet connected with it, whereby on rotating the rollers the patient is raised vertically from the bed. Instead of the bars B, C, the bearings for the roller may be carried on two strips of wood which can be strapped to the uprights. When an endless draw-sheet is used, a third roller may be mounted above one of the others and pressed against it by springs in order to get a good grip on the sheet. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the wooden support M on the frame carries a pin M<1> on which is pivoted the frame M<2> carrying the roller N.
