Abstract

1350835 Invalid chairs P W BRESSLER 23 June 1971 29509/71 Heading B7B [Also in Division B8] In an invalid chair the longitudinals of the seat frame are pivotally mounted on uprights 13 carried by a wheeled frame 11A, 11B, and a spring loaded piston 25 within the uprights engages via a toothed rack 26 with gear segment 36 carried by the seat longitudinals, the arrangement being such that the seat frame and seat back are movable to the position shown from the normal seating position on actuation of the piston 25. The piston spring 28 acts between the piston and an adjustable stop 29, and a catch arrangement (Fig. 5, not shown) is provided for locking the seat frame in the normal or upright positions. The seat back and seat frame are pivotally connected (Fig. 6, not shown) so as to allow the seat back to pivot whilst the seat frame is moved. Foot rests 63 are mounted on torsionally biased sleeves mounted on a spreader bar between the longitudinals of the wheeled frame, the spreader bar consisting of articulated members to allow the chair to be collapsed (Fig. 8, not shown).
