Abstract

1350674 Easy-opening containers CONTINENTAL CAN CO Inc 30 July 1971 [31 July 1970] 35948/71 Heading B8D A metal container end comprises a removable score line-defined panel portion 12, and a band 14 of adhesive compound, which is formed on the inner container end surface to bridge the score line and which is adapted to separate without rupture from the panel portion on removal of the latter to mask the resultant raw edge of the remaining portion of the container end. The container end may be formed with a shock-absorbing bead 7, the side wall 15 of which provides a boundary for the band. The band is extruded on to the container end whilst the latter is rotated. Alternatively, the container end may be seamed to the container body 17 prior to application of the band, and, in the absence of the bead 7, the band may extend into the corner of the container. A pull tab (not shown) is riveted to the movable panel portion.
