Abstract

1293345 Making aerosol containers; stamping STD SERVICES Ltd 19 Nov 1969 [27 Nov 1968] 56186/68 Headings B3A and B3Q [Also in Division B8] A method of making a pressure vessel, in particular an aerosol container, comprises drawing a flat blank into a hollow vessel 10 having an outwardly domed end, supporting at least the open end of the vessel 10 and advancing a tool 20, toward the closed end of the vessel to form a dome projecting inwardly of the vessel. The open end of the vessel has a lip 12 which is supported in a cavity 16 of a plate 14 by a stripping plate 18. The vessel may be spun during the advance of the tool 20. The final vessel has a peripheral flange (24), Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) formed by the external wall of the vessel and the base of the inwardly domed portion. The material used is preferably a coated sheet steel of 12/1000 inch thickness.
