Abstract
1,224,904. Electric selective signalling. J. S. S. STEWART. 20 June, 1969 [9 Aug., 1968], No. 38245/68. Heading G4H. The outputs of sensors measuring, e.g. heart rate, blood pressure and respiration, are compared with reference responses which may be individually adjusted for each patient, visual and audible warning being given if the difference between the outputs and the reference responses exceeds a predetermined level. The sensors may be duplicated, disparity between sensors giving a sensor fault indication. An analysis panel (Fig. 2, not shown) indicates whether each sensor output is high, low or normal. The high normal and low outputs from discriminators 2 (Fig. 3) are additionally fed to logic circuitry so that with particular combinations of sensor outputs alarm signals are given, e.g. if a low oxygen content in the blood and low blood pressure are combined with an increased heart rate. The logic circuitry may comprise electronic, fluidic, reed or relay switches.
