Abstract

1,006,957. Retaining occupants in bed. EVERED & CO. Ltd. May 22, 1964 [May 31, 1963], No. 21826/63. Heading A4J. A dropside assembly for a bed comprises a dropside 10 and supporting means consisting of a tube 19, sleeves 27, 28 and spigots 29 for interposition between the dropside and the bed frame on which the assembly is to be supported. The dropside has a lower tube 13 rotatably mounted in the tube 19 which is provided with female dog-clutch elements 20, 24 to cooperate with male dog-clutch elements 16, 15 on the tube 13. To hold the dropside in raised position a spring-loaded plunger is mounted in the sleeve 28 and engages between a sleeve 23 on the tube 19 and the male dog-clutch element 15 to hold the latter in engagement with the female dog-clutch element 24, Fig. 4. To drop the dropside the plunger 25 is retracted by means of an operating pin 29a and the dropside slid longitudinally to the left in Fig. 1 relative to the tube 19 to disengage the dog clutches as shown in Fig. 1.
