Description
The present invention relates to a wheelchair of simple design and practical use for the user. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Most wheelchairs have a driving wheel of a driving wheel which is concentric with this wheel and which is outside of it. the diameter of this flywheel must be almost as large as the diameter of the wheel that it drives to enjoy the largest possible engine torque with equal developed muscle strength. The disadvantage of this design is that the drive wheel passes close to the ground and is often soiled by the soil. The user of the wheelchair must therefore guard against these defilements by wearing gloves. This is not always enough because given the relative layout of the steering wheel and the driven wheel, it is dirty does not fail to dirty the sleeves of the user. In addition, the driving wheel is a rear wheel whose axis is at least directly above the backrest so that the user to enjoy a maximum range of training, fetch the wheel as far as possible behind his back, which is extremely tiring. This is why chairs have been proposed in which the drive wheel is no longer coaxial with the wheel but is separated from the wheel, mounted to rotate at a distance, forward and away from the ground, a transmission being between the steering wheel and the wheel. As an illustration of such an armchair, US Pat. No. 4,274,650 raises this problem as early as the end of the 1970s. The state of the art concerned also includes US Pat. No. 4,155,588, which proposes a solution for improving the lateral transfer of a wheelchair user, in which the rear main wheel is moved to a rear position, which allows the side obstacle it is above the level of the seat of the chair to be retracted, when she is in her service position. Document US Pat. No. 6,257,608 finally discloses an armchair 5 with a driving wheel driven by a steering wheel which is coupled to it by a lateral transmission. The steering wheel can enter a side cover where it is not maneuverable by the user. The disadvantage of this construction lies in the limited steering wheel stroke when operated by the user's hand, precisely because of the crankcase. The invention relates to the latter type of wheelchair designed on the one hand for ease of use and on the other hand, for a simpler manufacture which takes into account in particular recycling requirements after use. OBJECT OF THE INVENTION Thus the present invention relates to a wheelchair comprising two substantially flat lateral structures connected perpendicularly to their plane 20 by articulated means of their approximation and their spacing, each structure being provided with a crazy front wheel around an axis located in their plane and a rear wheel coupled to a drive member, characterized in that the drive member of the rear wheel is incorporated in a transmission subassembly consisting of a frame bearing rotation two pulleys with a loop link which couples them in rotation, each subassembly being attached to each lateral structure equipped for this purpose with means for receiving the subassembly with the axes of the pulleys perpendicular to the plane of each structure, the rear wheel aforesaid being reported to the subassembly and rotatably fitted to one of the pulleys while a manual drive handwheel, referred to the subassembly is rotated to the other pulley.
In one embodiment of the above-mentioned means, the frame is an elongate housing which has two bearings in each of which is rotatably mounted a gear while a chain couples the two wheels. The frame is attached to one of the lateral structures by being articulated to this structure about an axis coaxial with the axis of one of the toothed wheels, that which is associated with the rear wheel of the chair and being angularly immobilized around this axis by at least one means waiting on the structure.
In known manner, the chair has a seat that extends between the two side structures when it is deployed. According to the invention, the chassis, dissociated from the aforesaid means can pivot around the axis of the rear wheel so as to place the drive wheel 15 under the level of the seat. This arrangement makes it possible to release lateral access to the chair when, in a known manner, the corresponding lateral arm is removed. This arrangement is very advantageous for the nursing staff when transferring the user from his chair to another support such as a bed. Other features and advantages of the invention will emerge from the description given below of an exemplary embodiment of the invention. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Reference is made to the accompanying drawings in which: - Figure 1 is a side view of a basic structure of the chair according to the invention; - Figure 2 is a side view of this structure equipped with characteristic means of the invention; FIG. 3 is a side view of the complete chair. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION In the figures, identical elements are identified with the same reference numerals.
The chair according to the invention comprises two side structures 1 (only one is visible in the figures), here made based on tubular elements 2, 3, 4, ..., which are substantially planar and are interconnected by means articulated 5 which allow in a known manner their 5 approximation and their distance to fold or unfold the chair. At the front, each side structure carries a wheel 6 mounted idly about a vertical axis 7. The armchair conventionally comprises rear arms and handles 8 and footrests 9. Each side structure 1 comprises means 1 to receive a subassembly 12 shown in Figure 2. This subassembly comprises, in the case shown, a housing 13 which is the frame for two pulleys or gears 14 The means waiting to receive this subassembly are schematically illustrated by bearings 10 and 11 of the axles of the wheels 14 and 15. Note that the bearing 11 is opening so that, when open, the subassembly 12 can pivot in the bearing 10. This representation illustrates any means that allows detachably attaching the subassembly 12 on the side structure. This means may be disposed between the casing and the structure, the wheel or pulley being held in a casing bearing. On the transmission subassembly 12 thus attached to the lateral structure 1 of the wheelchair, a rear wheel 17 rotated on the wheel or pulley 14 has been mounted while a wheel 18 is rotated on the wheel 15. In the operating state of the subassembly 12, the steering wheel is ergonomically located within reach of the user. Inasmuch as it is desired to retract this flywheel 35 under the surface 19 of the seat, it suffices to undo the connection of the frame-casing 13 with the structure 1 at the level of the means 11 and to pivot this assembly around the common axis of the pulley 14, the rear wheel 17 and the bearing 10, to place the subassembly as illustrated at 13 'and 18' in FIG. 3. The means 20 shown in the figures as a half-bearing support of the housing in its position 13, is not strictly necessary, the steering wheel can rest on the ground in its retracted state in the lower part. The arm B side of the chair is then removed (it can be simply fitted on the structure 1) or folded outwardly (if it is hinged for this purpose on the side structure) which frees the lateral access for the l 'user to install on the seat of the chair or extract it. In the folding version of the side arm, the latter 15 advantageously constitutes a "bridge" for the user who covers the space extending between the seat of the chair and a new support whether it is a bed or another seat including a vehicle seat, to facilitate the transfer by providing user support in this trip. The design of the chair according to the invention has several advantages. At the time of constitution, one can easily adapt the transmission ratio and the diameter of the drive wheel to the wishes of the user.
10Furthermore, it is possible to design a transmission with modifiable transmission ratio by means of a speed changer like those of bicycle vehicles. In another embodiment, an electric motor and a battery can be incorporated in the subassembly 12 to provide electric wheelchair propulsion or, at the very least, a starting assistance known per se. When disposing of the used wheelchair, it is also easy to separate the various constituents of the latter in order to treat them in an ecological manner, in particular by being able to easily sort these components. In particular, it is quite possible to design the transmission subassembly entirely made of plastic material, easily separable from the chair structure which may or must remain metallic for reasons of resistance. The claimed invention is not limited to the embodiments described above but extends to any embodiment that does not come out of the scope or the spirit of the claims below. 10
