Abstract

The security device (14) for a cap with a top (10) and skirt (12) fixed to the neck (2) of a bottle or similar e.g. by matching threads consists of a security ring (18) designed to engage with a stop (4) on the neck, a band (20) which surrounds the skirt and is connected to the security ring by a rupture line (28), and an axial stop extending across the top of the cap, connected to the band and equipped with a tongue (36) which is lifted to remove the band.

Description

The present invention relates to a tamper-evident device for a

  screw cap, in particular a plastic cap intended for closure

of a bottle.

  There are already numerous tamper-evident devices intended to allow viewing of a first opening of a stopper closing a bottle. One can for example cite here the document WO-94/18085 which discloses a closure device for a container with a threaded neck comprising a threaded stopper the lower part of which is attached to a tamper-evident band by a connection zone with low mechanical resistance. The tamper-evident band has an internal annular ring, elastically deformable, intended to snap under a hooking collar provided at the lower periphery of the neck. When the cap is unscrewed for the first time, the internal annular ring of the tamper-evident band comes into abutment under the neck attachment collar and when a sufficient unscrewing torque is exerted, the connection zone with low mechanical resistance yields. We thus visualize the first opening by noting that the tamper-evident ring is not

more attached to the cap.

  There are other techniques allowing to visualize a first opening of a stopper. It is thus known to come to cover the stopper with a sheet made of a heat-shrinkable material and which comes to conform to the shape of the stopper and of the upper part of the container. You must first remove this sheet

before you can open the cap.

  It is also known to glue a self-adhesive tablet astride the neck of the container and the cap. When the cap is opened for the first time, the

pellet is torn.

  The disadvantage of these devices is that they are not completely inviolable. There are always possibilities to restore the device visually to the original state after a first opening. Thus, it is possible to solidify a tamper-evident ring with its plug by welding, to replace a sheet 5 of heat-shrinkable material in place after its removal and to "make up" a torn self-adhesive disc to give it the appearance of a new tablet. It is therefore possible to carry out fraud. This happens when the price of the contents of the container is relatively large. Fraudsters recover empty containers to fill them

  with a similar product but of lower quality.

  The present invention therefore aims to provide a tamper-evident device which prevents any

fraudulent reuse.

  To this end, the tamper-evident device which it proposes is intended for a screw cap having a bottom and a threaded skirt intended to cooperate with a thread produced on a neck of a bottle or the like. Ce20 device comprises a tamper-evident ring intended to cooperate with an abutment made on the neck to remain around the latter, and according to the invention, it further comprises: - a belt surrounding the skirt of the cap and connected in a breakable manner to the tamper-evident ring, and

  - an axial stop, extending on the bottom of the plug and connected to the belt.

  To open the cap without removing the tamper-evident device, you can for example try to tighten the belt tightly and unscrew to drive the cap. However, by unscrewing, the plug will also move axially and therefore abut against the axial stop. The latter cannot move because it is retained on the neck by the tamper-evident ring via the belt. It is enough that the ruptible connection between the belt and the tamper-evident ring allows the transmission of a predetermined torque without breaking to prevent opening the cap as well. We can also try to act on the bottom of the cap to unscrew it. It is then possibly possible to rotate the plug a few degrees but the latter, as before, quickly comes into abutment against the axial stop connected to the belt. It is therefore necessary to at least remove the axial stop and / or separate the belt to be able to access the plug. The user, by opening the bottle or the like, removes the belt and the axial stop and discards them. The tamper-evident ring remains on the bottle. We therefore separate various components of the tamper-evident device. The fraudster will therefore have to find both the empty bottle and a set consisting of a belt and

an axial stop.

  In order not to be able to easily connect a belt to a tamper-evident ring after a first separation, the belt is advantageously connected to the tamper-evident ring by a tearable zone. This also has the advantage of having a connection between these two parts which can transmit a relatively high torque. Other embodiments allow the transmission of such a couple. One can for example conform the facing edges of the tamper-evident ring and the notched belt and connect these two parts with breakable bridges. When a torque must then be transmitted, the concordance of the slots makes it possible to transmit the torque without stressing the bridges

breakable.

  In order to make any fraud impossible, the device according to the invention preferably comprises, at the level of its belt, at least one plastic deformation zone. When the belt is detached, the stresses imposed on the belt cause an irreversible plastic deformation, making this belt

unusable for a new job.

  In a preferred embodiment, the axial stop is ruptibly connected with the belt. The device is then composed of three distinct elements: the tamper-evident ring, the belt and the axial stop. The axial stop advantageously takes the form of a cross member which extends diametrically over the bottom of the plug. This makes it difficult to access the bottom of the plug and makes it possible to produce an effective stop. In this embodiment, the cross member preferably comprises a gripping tab to facilitate its removal by a user. This grip tab can

  for example extending parallel to the skirt of the cap.

  In an advantageous embodiment, the belt has an axial slot in which the gripping tab is housed and a ruptible connection is provided between the gripping tab and the belt on each side of the gripping tab. This allows the gripping tab to be integrated into the tamper-evident device and therefore to have an ergonomic device

and compact at the same time.

  To make it even more difficult to unscrew the stopper without first detaching the belt from the tamper-evident ring, means 25 can be provided preventing rotation of the tamper-evident ring from the neck. Several embodiments for these means preventing the tamper-evident ring from rotating relative to the neck are possible. In one of these embodiments, for example, the tamper-evident ring has radially extending projections on its inner face intended to cooperate with at least one projection extending radially outwardly disposed on the neck of the bottle or the like to prevent rotation around the neck of the

tamper-evident ring.

  It is also possible to have a tamper-evident ring of polygonal shape coming to cooperate with a corresponding external surface formed on the neck of the

bottle or the like.

  In any case, the invention will be well understood at

  using the following description, with reference to the drawing

  schematic appended, showing by way of nonlimiting example a preferred embodiment of the invention. Figure 1 is a perspective view of a neck provided with a screw cap and a tamper-evident device according to the invention, Figure 2 is an exploded perspective view showing the three elements of the previous figure separately, Figure 3 is an exploded perspective view showing the three constituent elements of the tamper-evident device described, FIGS. 4 to 6 are sectional views along the section line IV-IV of FIG. 1 showing a plug respectively equipped with a device complete inviolability, a tamper-evident device without cross and a tamper-proof device without cross and without belt, Figure 7 is a view corresponding to Figure 2 for an alternative embodiment, and Figure 8 is a view in section along the section line VIII-VIII of FIG. 1 for the variant of the

figure 7.

  FIG. 2 shows a bottle neck 2 provided with an external annular ring 4 and a thread 6, a cap 8 having a bottom 10 and a tapped skirt 12

  intended to cooperate with the thread 6 of the neck, and a tamper-evident device 14 intended to come and take place on the plug 8.35 All of these elements are preferably made of synthetic material and obtained by molding.

  The plug 8 is screwed in a conventional manner onto the neck 2. A chimney 16 is provided to seal between the plug and the neck. It extends parallel to the skirt 12 of the plug, from the bottom 10, and is of a diameter substantially equal to the diameter

inside of neck 2.

  The tamper-evident device 14 comprises a tamper-evident ring 18, a belt 20 and a cross member 22. The tamper-evident ring 18 is intended to come to take place essentially under the annular ring 4 of the neck 2 by surrounding the latter. It has on its inner face projections 24 extending radially inward. These protrusions 24 thus form notches 15 which allow a first force fitting using a machine of the ring 18 on the neck 2 but

  which prevent subsequent removal of this ring 18.

  These projections 24 also cooperate with stops 26 extending radially outwards, arranged on the

  neck 2 just below the annular ring 4, in order to prevent rotation of the ring 18 around the neck 2.

  The belt 20 comes to take place at the height of the skirt 12 of the plug. It surrounds the latter and extends substantially over the entire height thereof. A

  tearable zone 28, obtained by a thinning of material, connects the belt 20 to the ring 18.

  A slot 30 substantially V-shaped and extending in the axial direction is formed in the belt 20. The tip of the V is on the side of the ring

inviolability 18.

  On the side opposite to the slot 30, two plastic deformation zones 32 extending axially over the entire height of the belt 20 are provided. Thus, when the belt 20 is grasped at an edge of the slot 30 in order to separate it from the ring 18 and thus be able to access the plug 8, the belt is plastically deformed and therefore irreversibly at these two zones 32. The belt 20 cannot therefore be reused. In addition, in known manner, in the areas of plastic deformation of a synthetic material, there is a change in color. It is therefore immediately apparent whether the material has been plastically deformed, even if it is forced to

return to its original shape.

  The crosspiece 22 extends above the bottom 10 of the plug. It comprises a bar 34 which passes diametrically through the plug. One end of the bar is at the level of the slot 30 and the other end is placed between the two plastically deformable zones 32. The end located on the side of the slot 30 is provided with a gripping tab 36 which is received in the slot 30. This tab 36 is thus substantially perpendicular to the bar 34. It is connected to the belt 20 by 38 breakable sockets

so on the edges of the slot 30.

  The end of the bar 34 opposite the grip tab 36 is connected to the free upper edge of the belt 20 by means of breakable bridges 40

(figure 2).

  Ribs 42, extending here axially, are provided on the inner face of the belt at the edges of the slot 30 as well as on the face of the gripping tab 36 intended to be facing the skirt 12, in order to facilitate gripping by a paw user

36 and the edges of the slot 30.

  The entire tamper-evident device 14 is put in place on the cap 8 after filling the bottle and screwing the cap 8 onto the neck 2. It is therefore not possible to unscrew the cap to access the contents of the bottle without removing at least

  part of the tamper-evident device.

  Indeed, one can imagine opening the cap either by grasping it at the skirt 12, or by acting on the bottom 10. The belt 20 covers the skirt 12. By applying pressure on the belt, one can pass a couple of unscrewing on the skirt of the cap. However, the belt 20 is connected to the tamper-evident ring 18 which itself is blocked in rotation by the projections 24 and the stops 26. The tearable zone 28 is designed not to yield in the event of tangential shearing, even relatively large. In addition, in the event of rotation of the plug 8, the latter would move axially and would then come into abutment against the bar 34 of the crosspiece 22. As long as the bar 34 is not removed, it cannot move axially because it is retained by the tamper-evident ring 18 via the belt 20. The plug 8 cannot therefore be unscrewed in this way for two distinct reasons, on the one hand because the belt 20 is locked in rotation and on the other hand because the plug 8 is blocked in translation. 20 By acting at the bottom 10 of the plug, it is possibly possible to drive the plug a few degrees in rotation, even if the bar 34 makes this operation difficult because it hinders the access to the bottom 10. By turning the plug 8, it also moves in translation upwards and then comes into abutment against the bar 34. The latter is secured to the belt, itself secured to the tamper-evident ring 18 who is blocked e translationally upwardly by the projections

  24 abutting against the annular ring 4 of the neck 2.

  The displacement of the plug 8 is therefore blocked both in rotation and in upward translation when the

  tamper-evident device 14 is in place.

  To be able to unscrew the plug 8, it is therefore necessary to at least partially remove the tamper-evident device 14. The latter is intended to be removed as indicated

  below, with reference to Figures 4 to 6.

  FIG. 4 represents in section the neck 2 provided with its cap 8, itself covered with the tamper-evident device 14. The user grasps the gripping tab 36 and makes it pivot upwards to bring it substantially into the plane of the bar 34. In doing so, the bridges 38 located at the edges of the slot 30 are broken. The bar 34 is released by pivoting for example around the bridges 40 connecting the opposite end to the gripping tab 36 to the belt 20. The bridges 40 break during this pivoting, thus releasing the bar 34. The user can discard the crosspiece 22 which it has just removed (FIG. 5). Access to the stopper is still difficult. It then suffices to remove the belt 20. The latter 15 is easily removed by pulling radially on one of the edges of the slot 30. The tearable zone 28 gives way

  gradually over the entire periphery of the tamper-evident ring 18. During this separation of the belt 20 from the tamper-evident ring 18, the plastically deformable zones 3220 are deformed under the effect of the stresses which are imposed on them.

  Once the belt has been removed (Figure 6), access to the stopper is free. We have three distinct parts: the tamper-evident ring 18 which remains on the neck 2 of the bottle, the belt 20 which is plastically deformed

and crosses 22.

  It is not possible to reconstitute this tamper-evident device 14 after a first use. A fraudster who has a bottle, for example a bottle originally filled with mineral water, as well as a belt and a barrette, and who, after filling the bottle with tap water, does not could not put the belt and the bar back in place without seeing the fraud. Indeed, the plastic deformation marks the belt which then locally changes appearance, in particular color, and moreover it is difficult, even

  impossible, to reconstitute a tearable zone.

  The variant of FIGS. 7 and 8 differs from the embodiment described above only at the level of the tamper-evident ring and therefore also at the level of the neck of the bottle. The same references used

  previously are therefore used for this variant.

  The external perspective view of FIG. 1 corresponds both to this variant embodiment and to

  the embodiment described above.

  In this variant, the means for preventing the rotation of the tamper-evident ring 18 relative to the neck 2 are eliminated. We therefore no longer find the notches 24 at the level of the ring 18, nor the stops

radial 26 of neck 2.

  As seen in Figures 7 and 8, the tamper-evident ring 18 has two peripheral ribs 44 (only one is visible in Figure 7) intended to cooperate with the annular ring 4 to prevent withdrawal of the tamper-evident ring 18 of the neck 2. These ribs 44 only prevent axial movement of the ring 18 while leaving the latter a degree of freedom

  rotating around the axis of the neck 2.

  The operation of this device is the same as that described above. The only difference is that in the event of an unscrewing attempt by grasping the plug at the level of its skirt, the tamper-evident ring 18 is not locked in rotation with respect to the neck 2. As explained above, there is no is then still not possible to unscrew the cap because it comes up against the

its bottom 10 against the crosspiece 22.

  In the two embodiments presented, this tamper-evident device is very safe for the consumer who can easily see if the bottle

  whether it is offered for sale has already been opened or not.

  It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the embodiment described above by way of a nonlimiting example Zl; on the contrary, she embraces

  all variants within the scope of the claims below. So, for example, the belt may have a

  other shape and for example not be provided with a slot. A tear-off area or ruptible bridges could replace this slot. A separate grip tab can also be provided for the belt to facilitate gripping of one end of the belt

  for tearing the connection zone with the tamper-evident ring.

  The shape of the bar illustrated in the drawing is given by way of example. Any other form can be considered. The bar does not necessarily join two diametrically opposite zones15 of the belt. A star-shaped barrette with three (or more) branches would be perfect. The means for blocking the rotation of the tamper-evident ring are not limited to protrusions facing counter-stops. A shape match can be chosen. The ring then has a shape which is not a shape of revolution, for example polygonal, and

  a complementary shape is made on the neck.

Claims (10)

  1. Tamper-evident device (14) for a screw cap (8) having a bottom (10) and a threaded skirt (12) intended to cooperate with a thread (6) produced on a neck (2) of a bottle or similar, this device comprising a tamper-evident ring (18) intended to cooperate with a stop (4) produced on the neck to remain around the latter, characterized in that it further comprises: - a belt (20) surrounding the skirt (12) of the plug (8) and rupturely connected to the tamper-evident ring (18), and - an axial stop (22), extending on the bottom   (10) of the plug and connected to the belt (20).   2. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the belt (20) is connected to the ring   inviolability (18) by a tearable zone (28).   3. Device according to one of claims 1 or   2, characterized in that the belt (20) has at least one zone (32) of plastic deformation.   4. Device according to one of claims 1 to   3, characterized in that the axial stop (22) is connected   in a breakable manner with the belt (20).   5. Device according to one of claims 1 to   4, characterized in that the axial stop is in the form of a crosspiece (22) which extends diametrically on the bottom (10) of the cap.   6. Device according to claim 5, characterized in that the crosspiece (22) has a tab gripping (36).   7. Device according to claim 6, characterized in that the gripping tab (36) extends parallel to the skirt (12) of the plug. 35 8. Device according to claim 7, characterized in that the belt (20) has an axial slot (30) in which is housed the gripping tab (36) and in that a breakable connection (38) is provided between the gripping tab (36) and the belt   (20) on each side of the grip tab (36).   9. Device according to one of claims 1 to   8, characterized in that it further comprises means (24, 26) preventing rotation of the tamper-evident ring (18) relative to the neck (2).   10. Device according to claim 9, characterized in that the tamper-evident ring (18) has on its inner face projections (24)   extending radially intended to cooperate with at least one projection (26) extending radially outwardly disposed on the neck (2) of the bottle or the like 15 to prevent rotation around the neck (2) of the ring inviolability (18).
