Abstract

The invention relates to a newly designed bed which may be modified both in its shape and in the relief of its laying surface, and in the spacial orientation of the assembly. Such construction allows the patient and the nursing staff to optimally adopt the best positions for rest, activity or care. Essentially, such new design aims at constructing the laying surface by juxtaposing a plurality of distinct modular rectangular elements (M1) to (M10) arranged in the longitudinal and transversal axes of the bed. The side modules (M5), (M6) and (M7) and (M8), (M9) and (M10) are disconnectable. The modules may be oriented angularly in a variable way with respect to each other.

Description

 The present invention relates to a multifunctional medical bed, especially intended for use by people forced to stay practically lying down permanently.

 There are already a large number of various types of such beds, the type of architecture and mode of operation of which provide for successive specific zones in their length, corresponding respectively to the bust, the seat and the legs of the patient, and capable of '' be angularly adjustable in relation to each other.

 To do this, these areas are hinged together around axes perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bed and mounted on mobile supports actuated by any suitable motor means.

 This allows the patient to be put in various positions corresponding to successive periods of rest, activity, or care, or also so as to limit or avoid the risk of bedsores.

 However, all these previously known beds have the disadvantage of being shaped once and for all for a preferential predetermined use, corresponding for example to a particular type of situation or care.

 The main object of the present invention is precisely to propose a bed of new design allowing it to be modified at will both in the shape and in the relief of its bearing surface, and in the orientation of the assembly in the space so as to allow, on the one hand, the patient to take all the desired positions according to his needs at a given instant as, on the other hand, the nursing staff to be in an optimal position by report to the patient in order to provide care.

 To this end, the invention relates to a multifunctional medical bed of the aforementioned kind characterized in that its bearing surface is formed by the juxtaposition of several distinct modular rectangular elements arranged both in the length and in the width of the bed, that each modular element consists of a box spring, a mattress and a fitted sheet specific to this element, that means are provided along certain sides of modular rectangular elements to allow rapid connection or disconnection of an element with an adjacent element, and that means are provided along certain sides of modular rectangular elements to allow adjustment of the relative angular orientation of two adjacent elements between them.

 According to a particular characteristic arrangement, the bearing surface of the bed comprises nine rectangular elementary surfaces, including three successive longitudinal centers corresponding to the bust, the seat and the legs of the patient, these three longitudinal central surfaces being bordered on each side by three other longitudinal side surfaces.

 According to another characteristic, the central seat surface of the bed is itself subdivided into two longitudinal parts which can move apart and / or retract to allow the patient to carry out his natural needs in a suitable receptacle placed below the opening thus practiced.

 According to another characteristic, the peripheral edges of the box springs of the modular rectangular elements have a succession of housings to receive, on request, corresponding supports of any useful accessories which can be fitted to the iit.

 The present invention will be understood more clearly with the aid of the following description of the particular embodiment.

 Referring first to Figure 1, there is shown a medical bed whose bearing surface, typically, is formed by the juxtaposition of several distinct modular rectangular elements.

 The three successive longitudinal central parts comprise the modules: (M1), corresponding to the patient's bust (M2), and (M3) to his seat, and (M4) to his legs.

 These three longitudinal central parts are bordered on each side by three other longitudinal lateral modules: (Ms), (M6) and (M?) On one side, and (M8), (M9) and (M10) on the other.

 The longitudinal side surfaces corresponding to the bust and to Passise (mus, M6), (M8, M9) have a cutaway on their adjacent side.

 As can be seen referenced in some of Figures 2 to 5, each module consists of a box spring (sil) to (s10), a mattress (ml) to (mlO), and a fitted sheet (dl ) to (d10), all specific to each module.

 All along the lateral edges of the modules (mu), (M2) - (M3) and (M4) of the longitudinal central part of the bed, L-shaped profiles are mounted (1) pivoting relative to these edges and capable of receiving by fitting the corresponding profiles (2) integral with the corresponding edges of the bed bases of the lateral modules (mus) to (M10).

 This makes it easy to connect the side modules to the central modules, as seen for modules (M6) and (M2), or (M9) and (M3) in Figures 3 and 4.

 This also allows quick and easy disconnection, as shown in Figure S for modules (M3) and (M9) using the arrow fl.

 Appropriate means, shown diagrammatically in the form of a jack (3) on the left-hand side of FIG. 4, make it possible to adjust at will the relative angular orientation of adjacent modules, such as modules (M2) and (M6), by thrust exerted between the profile (1) of a module and the bed base of an adjacent module, in the orientation indicated by the arrow 12.

 As can be seen in FIGS. 3 to 5, the box springs (s2) and (s3) of the modules (M2) and (M3) are supported in a base (4) equipped with slides (5) in which rollers are guided ( 6) integral with the box springs (s2) and (s3).

 FIG. 3 represents the modules (M6), (M2), (M3) and (M9) in a coplanar position.

 The left part of FIG. 4 represents the adjacent modules (M2) and (M6) making a slight angle between them, as represented by the position of the bed in FIG. 1.

 The right part of FIG. 4 shows what happens when a lateral traction is exerted in the direction of the arrow f3 on the module (M3); the rollers (6) guided in the inclined slides (5) rotate and lower the module (M3).

 The continuation of this lateral traction action leads to the position of the module (M3) shown in FIG. 5. As indicated by the dashed line (7), the modules (M3) and (M2) thus pulled laterally retract falling sideways with respect to the adjacent modules (M1) and (M4) of the longitudinal central part. This avoids any disturbing friction for the patient's seat when thus opening an opening in this part of the support surface to easily allow this patient to meet his natural needs.

 According to another characteristic of the invention, the peripheral edges of all the box springs (s1) to (s10) of the rectangular modular elements have a succession of housings (8) of which only some are visible in FIG. 1. Only by way of example, there is shown diagrammatically in (9) in FIG. 1 an accessory such as a footrest. Its two ends (10) are positioned in the corresponding housings (8). All other accessories are imaginable: lamp, tray, serum bottle, etc ...

 FIG. 2 illustrates a particularly simple and effective mode of animation in the space of a bed according to the invention.

 It is mounted on a base (11) with casters (12) allowing it to be easily moved on a floor.

 The spatial animation of the bed is ensured by the deformation of an articulated parallelogram formed by the lower terminal part of the bed base (s1), the bed base (s2) - (s3), the upper terminal part of the bed base (s4) and d 'a branch (13) parallel and of the same length as (s2) - (s3). This parallelogram is articulated around the axes (14), (15), (16) and (17).

Its deformation is obtained by the action of a jack (18) connected between the joints (15) and (17).

 The assembly is mounted on a vertical support (19) mounted on the base (11).

Optionally, a jack (20) allows the height of the bed to be adjusted.

 Another cylinder (21) makes it possible to pivot the entire bed around the articulation (14).

After this description of a particular embodiment of the invention, we can better grasp all of these advantages:
- you can only change the polluted part of the sheets by only changing the fitted sheet;
- patient comfort is ensured by changing the relief of the bed support surface at will;
- anti-decubitus protection is ensured by this same fact;
- the patient can have all the accessories necessary or useful for his care or his activities;
- the liftable longitudinal side edges provide a "shell" effect favorable to a feeling of comfort and / or security in the patient; in particular, these borders replace the lateral barriers, psychologically traumatic, usually used in hospitals to contain agitated patients;
- the disconnectable parts of the longitudinal side edges allow the nursing staff to place themselves in an optimal ergonomic position near the patient to be treated;
- the possibility of equipping the bed with an associated toilet block is an element of dignity;
- the entire bed, due to its means of spatial animation, can allow the patient to be in a seated position as in an armchair, and even to assist him to a vertical position to put him in a standing position ;
- These spatial animation means can be associated with control systems that can be manipulated directly by the patient, or by the nursing staff. They can be motorized, remote-controlled, and / or programmed (anti-decubitus effect) by any suitable well-known means.

 Of course, the embodiment described above is given only by way of example.
